Selectors Assemble are excited to bring you the premeire of 'Arrhytmia' by Rotterdam-based producer Kofi The Unknown - a house excursion that doffs a cap to Detroit, championing rich deep house synth riffs, a jaunty bass and driving 808 drums.

Pre-pandemic, Boogie Cafe released a compilation of various emerging artists from Bologna titled 'Bologna On The Move'. This time the focus is on a new wave of amazingly talented producers coming through from Rotterdam NL. The compilation 'Rotterdam On The Move' which Arrhytmia is taken from, is dedicated to the more soulful, jazz influenced sound emerging from the city, in contrast to the city's reputation for Techno, Electro and the harder edge of dance culture.

The 6 track compilation features music from OG Wang, Chezz, Dikkens,  Kofi The Unknown, Beau Zwart & Sykes and will be dropping early September on Boggie Cafe Records.

Took the short journey from Utrecht to Leiden to visit the family over at Maxi Radio! Once again I had a blast meeting them all and enjoying the wonderful space they have over there. This set is a reflection of that I hope. I opened the schedule so started off nice and soft with some soothing soul before working through plenty of boogie. Slowly bringing in the four to the floor deep and garage house, finally ending with some freestyle and more synth-laden funk.

CLOUD All Night Long - SPECIAL MIX  by  GE-OLOGY

Melbourne, Australia based improviser, composer, bassist, producer, 30/70 co-founder and certified MIMS favourite puts his magic touch on "Apollo", by compatriot soulful groove collective, Astral Flex. Coming soon on La Sape Records.

Founded in 2019, Astral Flex is a band of musicians/producers born of an ascendant local culture of producer based, improvised music in Melbourne, Australia.

Recorded on the 50th anniversary of humankind's first step on the moon, their debut release "I Can See My House From Here" will consist of two sides. A spacey beats & jazz improvisation on Side A, and a collection of house/electronic remixes on Side B. Horatio Luna's effort can be found alongside rewords by fellow Melbourne residents Odyssey Zelno and Felix Meredith.

Horatio's remix drops on Febuary 11 with the entire collection following on March 18. In the meantime, you can preview two original tracks and pre-order vinyl and/or digital on Bandcamp.

Sundown - Spaced Outta Place Pt.2

We are excited to kick start the weekend with this booming dancefloor bomb of a remix from respected Detroit house and techno artist Patrice Scott for Melbourne's breakout house meets jazz producer, Horatio Luna. Vibes on this one are so deep, it's almost one to meditate to whilst you move. 

Composer, bassist and producer Horatio Luna is a musician intrinsically interwoven into the fabric of Melbourne’s (and indeed the global) jazz scene. Following his 2020 LP “Boom Boom” (Which won support from the likes of Jamz Supernova, Lefto, Bradley Zero, Earmilk and OkayPlayer) Horatio returns to Jitwam’s The Jazz Diaries imprint, inviting several of his all time favourite producers to reimagine some of his standout tracks. 

The ‘Reworks EP’ kicks off with Horatio’s interpretation of ‘Milestones’ (a cover of the incredible Miles Davis track), while enigmatic UK producer Zepherin Saint takes to the boards with his remix of ‘Bumps’, giving the track a new lease of life with scattered drums and jazzy progressions. Next up Detroit’s Patrice Scott turns in his emotive remix of Horatio’s LP title track ‘Boom Boom’ - featuring moody pads, piano flourishes and an ominous bassline, he adds some Mo-town seasoning into the original. Last but not least the one and only Kai Alcé also turns his gaze to ‘Boom Boom’ opting for a more uplifting approach, and his Wurlitzer notes stretch into the ether, to be joined by a driving rhythm section to keep the dancers moving. With these incredible remixes, Horatio’s infectious and groove-soaked driving bassline and astral textures are given a soulful injection from some of the finest in the game.

This remix EP is so strong it was hard to choose a favourite but Patrice just nailed it on this one.  His remix of "Boom Boom" will drop on February 16, whilst the full EP will follow on March 11.

MIMS is delighted to present the online premiere of "Currents" by JAB, close to 7 sublime minutes of deep soulful jazz, whose steady rhythms could either carry away our feet on the dancefloor, or lure our thoughts to drift away to its seductive groove.

Following the acclaimed 'Directions' EP and last year's popular '6 Degrees of Separation', the mysterious multi-instrumentalist JAB is due to return with brand new 'Currents' EP on March 19. 

Title track, "Currents" was inspired by the hope glimpsed towards the end of the first lockdown, when restrictions started to ease, for a return to normality. The song opens with the pulse-like drums beating like a heartbeat, creating life as it unfolds, and the strings swoop and organ blossoms, with the bassline excitedly and playfully expressing fluidity. 

JAB tells us that ""Currents" represents movement to me and I think the world moved through many phases of emotions in 2020. Similar to a stream or an ocean you have a spectrum of textures from shallow and light, to deep and heavy.”

Well we can't wait to hear the whole EP. JAB is multi-talented musician, producer, composer and arranged, leading a powerful ensemble on this release. Vinyl and digital drops on March 19.

The difference between imitation and emulation is specific experience. No one else has walked your path, lived your vision.

There is no right or wrong way, only different ways as there are different people. We will learn reverence from each other through expressing our symbols, our hieroglyphs. This is my attempt to share mine.
