Algernon Doll returns with his brilliant new single, Spilt Milk Perfume, taken from the forthcoming album due for release on 9th June 2014 via Struggletown Records.

Spilt Milk Perfume sees Algernon Doll, aka Ewan Grant, continue to hone and perfect his alternative guitar sound and poignant lyrics. At just 24 years old, Ewan already has two critically acclaimed albums behind him and is due to release a third later this year. Having initially been compared to Elliott Smith due to his acerbic, alternative acoustic style, Ewan has exhibited his chameleonic creative output by altering his sound with each release - with every single or album different from the last.

Spilt Milk Perfume pulls on influences such as Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins and Fugazi to produce an up tempo, driven rock track, one which the aforementioned bands could proudly call their own. Ewan’s characteristic lyrics are still evident as the single comes to life with chiming guitar, distorted vocals and an expert drum beat reminiscent of Dave Grohl on In Utero. 

Over the last year Algernon Doll has been supported by the likes of NME.com, Mad Mackerel, Radar Scotsman, God Is In The TV, For Folk Sake and Artrocker - highlighting the diversity in the music he creates. 2014 is a year where Algernon Doll aims to further enhance his reputation as one of Scotland’s most talented up-and-coming musicians.

Andrew Pearson & Lovers Turn to Monsters - Another Dawn.

Kinbrae are Andrew and Mike Truscott, an instrumental duo from rural Fife specialising in sparse melancholic compositions. Their sound is primarily defined by the interplay of piano and cornet accentuated by subtle and inventive percussion, acoustic guitar, synths and viola. Their forthcoming album, 'Coastal Erosion', is a plaintive and nostalgic look back at their childhood growing up in Newport-on-Tay. They have an instinctive feel for melody and sympathetic harmony. 

The brothers have played in such bands as The Seventeenth Century, Now Wakes the Sea and Prehistoric Friends.

'Coastal Erosion' is available on Common Records from 8th December 2014.

Lovers Turn To Monsters is the non-de-plume of perennial miserablist Kyle Wood who, on a stolen tape machine, has forged an impressive niche in the lo-fi anti-folk scene of West Lothian. His relentless work rate has led to a sprawling and formidable back catalogue of arresting immediacy, rawness and beauty that chart an engaging narrative of his life. He approaches the subjects of love and death with a bitter wit which twists clichés and mundanities into fresh and illuminating lyrical phrases. Nothing exemplifies this better than the three songs on his new release The Skeletor EP which sees Kyle enter the studio for the first time and set these lyrics on the background of intricate guitars, samples, electronics, bells and massed vocals. It doesn’t completely eschew his love for crackle and hiss but instead highlights the musicality and poignancy of these songs.

The Skeletor EP is released on June 24th on Common Records with an accompanying and intertwining cassette-only album Fireflies. The launch will be at the inaugural 'Common Rooms' series of house shows on the June 21st at a secret location in Glasgow. The single Skeletor will be available for free download from 3rd June.

Andrew Pearson is a singer-songwriter from Edinburgh. His gloomy lo-fi pop and intricate lyrics have been highly praised by the Scottish blogosphere and found unlikely success on BBC and XFM Radio. On record, acoustic guitars dominate however his live act sees him turn towards electric guitars, samples and electronic beats to create an atmospheric and thoughtful sound. His last album, ‘Everything We Miss’ a collaboration with Lovers Turn to Monsters, came 3rd in Scottish Fiction's Top 20 Albums of 2014 and 17th in RaveChild’s Top 20 Albums of 2014. He’s toured all over Scotland and shared stages with Malcolm Middleton, The Pictish Trail, esperi and Meursault. He runs the DIY label Common Records.
