♫ About the artist: this veteran of the sonic arts, Latam, started getting involved with soundwaves in 2004. Nowadays he focuses on the groovy, hypnotic side of psychedelic trance, with the bpm around 140, but building bridges between different styles and tempos is very much a trademark of his. Latam also goes by the alter-ego Fractaliceanu (faster & darker psytrance) and Blooni (deep techno).

Sounds of the Earth - Latam

DJ set from Mumush Festival 2022, new emerging and promising festival in Transylvania, Romania, in a beautiful green location between a long panoramic hill and a forest. It was Saturday evening-night and i had the responsibility and the pleasure to do the warm-up for Dekel, who was the headliner of the edition. Initially i thought i would have to start my set differently because i knew Tsu who was scheduled before me plays dark-ish psytech, but surprisingly he played much more atmospheric and melodic than i expected so i had to continue from where he left off and take it to where i knew i had to leave it for Dekel. It slowly builds up while having several ups and downs and plenty of variation but always accelerating the tempo, starts at 130 BPM and finishes at 140. I had a lot of fun during my performance, i love these kind of sets where you can have more room to experiment and play around, in contrast to a peak time set where you have to deliver a full on full power music. It's a very eclectic breaking-the-barriers fusion of psytrance, techno, progressive, zenonesque, acid, tribal and goa, constantly alternating the moods and switching between different styles and sounds. 

Open your mind, step outside the box and embrace the music.

Latam mix at Mumush Festival 2022 (warm-up for Dekel) [130-140 BPM]

My DJ set at Ozora Festival 2023 Pumpui Stage, Sunday evening, the closing night of the festival. I started right when the main stage was closing and played before Modus who played before SFX aka Astral Projection. Went really well and i got very good feedback, in the beginning there was a crowd of a few hundred people dancing which grew and grew until the end up to a few thousands. The atmosphere was absolutely electric, i still feel the vibe and the emotions in my body. Was a memorable day! The mix starts with a dark-ish more classical zenonesque sound, but then goes deeper and deeper and deeper, gradually introducing melodies, trance inducing atmospheres, tribal elements, psychedelic twists, intelligent percussions, acid sounds, modern grooves, irresistible rhythms, slowly changing the style until the end. It's psytrance that doesn't sound like the usual psytrance, sounds techno-ish but it's not techno, seems progressive but it's not quite progressive, and even has some goa influences. I started my DJ journey back in 1992 when i joined the Stimulatons collective at the '1in12 Club' in Bradford, UK.  For those of you that like their crusty anarchist punk, you will probably have heard of the place.

Throughout the 90s i played various genres of techno and trance mainly leaning more to the acidic tripped out side, later progressing more into a more darker progressive sound, not retricting my self to any specic genre.

After Stimulatons,  i have been have a promoter DJ for numerous other events the last being a successfull Psychedlic night called Kulu, althought the other DJs did complain that i leaned a bit too much to the housy side, i think they were just confused because i played stuff with a groove.

In 2004 i decided to fully step away from DJing and the scence as a whole,  for someone who was very passionate about the music, it was a very dificult decision to take, but a neccessary one.   The following year i then left the UK for a life in Copenhagen Denmark where i have been live for the past 19 years, married with 2 children.

Now the Kids are older, i have started collecting music once again, and decided to have another go at DJing after a 20 year break.

I’ve been thinking for a while to record a set where I would explore the more emotional side of psytrance and when Universal Tribe Records from Australia wrote me and asked if I would do a mix for their series it turned out to be the perfect opportunity. They gave me access to their entire catalogue, so after listening thoroughly to everything I spent 2 days on the tracklist and how the musical story will unfold because I kept changing the tracks and their order. This is the end result and I think it goes even deeper than I initially thought in invoking the human emotions through music. Have your own experience of it. 

BPM keeps a steady 135 throughout the whole mix and you’ll hear artists like Mora, Gaia Groove, Medjula, Ambler, Nanuk, Heka, Dragota, Scionaugh, Kuni, Spiradical, Xeonzyne, Wight, Hybrid, Abaracdabra, Ecoteric, Amadán.

Latam - Emotions (mix for Universal Tribe Records) [135 BPM]

My DJ set from the mighty Ozora Festival, 2024, the Ozora (Main) Stage. I played on Day 4 between 8:30 and 10:00am, it was Thursday. Morning vibes, the sun was shining up and already starting to hit pretty hard, that time of the day when the rhythms on the dance floor are changing from night time psychedelia towards more melodic and atmospheric grooves. This mix reflects that transition, now it feels hard but then it's deep, it feels intense but also smooth, goes from dark to light and then again darker, the bassline changes all the time and it's very playful, the elements are a fusion of electronic and organic, it's the kind of psytrance that would be difficult to put in a box. As usually i tried to give something different to the audience and even be a bit provocative. It's a journey, like a musical trip that begins at 147 BPM and finishes 142. Singular Vision | Full-On Psychedelia

Romanian psychedelic trance DJ Latam first played music at a party in 2004 in unexpected and unplanned circumstances, going with the flow in a synchronistic situation. It was a Eureka moment which gave him a clearer sense of purpose and a new direction in life. After some years of practice and learning, encouraged by things going constantly up, he decided to give up any other business and fully commit to music as a way of living. Having a curious personality, he explored through the multitude sub-genres of electronica, for a while mixing in parallel psy, goa, progressive, techno, electro or house, in various forms. 

At present he is focusing on the groovy hypnotic side of psychedelic trance, with a versatile approach that can vary depending on the party profile, audience, location and hour, having the ability to chameleonically adapt and build bridges between different styles and tempos within the 130 to 150 BPM range. Sometimes you can hear him playing also ambient and downtempo in an eclectic chill fashion at the alternative stages. Additionally, he has an alter-ego called Fractaliceanu for faster darker psytrance, and another avatar, Melanj, with whom he ventures into deep techno territories. 

Besides DJing, Latam is involved in organizing and promoting events through Thrancians organization that he manages, plus Unda and Spacesheep associations, being a co-organizer of Waha & Rebirth festivals and a partner of Dakini festival, which featured legendary names like Juno Reactor, Astral Projection, Eat Static, Etnica & Pleiadians, Astrix, Sensient, Son Kite, X-Dream, Loud, Atmos, Psykovsky, Kindzadza, Cosmosis, Dickster, etc. 

He has performed around the world at major festivals such as Ozora, Fusion, Exit, Hadra, Sziget, Untold, as well as smaller underground gatherings, numerous club parties, private events, etc., in countries like Germany, France, England, Portugal, Netherlands, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Panama, Denmark, Belgium, Serbia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Norway, Malta, Ukraine, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Republic of Moldova, Crimea, Romania.
