Exclusive: Bawrut & Benjamin Fröhlich - Kirmes

The Permanent Vacation head Benjamin Fröhlich and Ransom Note regular Bawrut joined forces for their upcoming track Kirmes, which is part of AEON's V/A Versus Vol. 1 – an EP consisting out of collaborative tracks only. Shortly before the release of their fair-project the two scene mainstays digitally met up to chat about the (non) changing daily routines, how deeply they've been involved with music lately but also share some insights on what they've struggled with over the time of the pandemic, future approaches to life and music, reflect on the scene in general, how they miss playing in front of people and – a bit – about their track Kirmes. Latter unites the best of both artist's worlds, an intriguing break-esque baseline, pointed chords paired with a whiff of edgy weirdness and spare vocals to add an accentuated different note over a few bars before fully focusing on the track's melodic frame.

Bondax is back with a seductive new sound and their first new music in three years. The Bondax pair of Adam Kaye and George Towns quickly established themselves after hitting the scene a decade ago, putting out a string of well-received, synth-pop gems on the likes of Relentless and Sony Music.
Now, after a few years hid away and re-honing their skills and production techniques, they are back, primed and ready for the dance floor. Their fresh new sound has been teased at comeback gigs at the likes of Night Tales, and now 'Don’t Want It' kicks off an exciting run of singles with London label Future Disco.

The dazzling 'Don't Want It' is a luxurious disco affair with a seductive vocal line steeped in Motown history. Powered by a tight, funky rhythm section, lush chords and organic drum sounds, it harks back to the most musical days of soul and disco. A stunning arrangement allows each element plenty of room to shine, as Tara McDonald’s lifts a line from Diana Ross’ ‘Love Hangover’ and breathes new life into it. ‘Don’t Want It’ is precisely the sort of uplifting tune the world wants to hear right now as we're finally making our way back on
the dance floor.

Demi Riquísimo hails from Detroit but now lives in London. He has been behind many different projects over the years and is a talented musician whose tunes have had big plays from the likes of Haai, Horse Meat Disco and Optimo. He goes big here with crisp percussion, kicking drums and perfectly shiny Italo chords.

The waters were shallow and warm, the waves moved slowly and softly. Down by the river there were a few stray souls who had gathered to take in the glow of the morning and observe the peace before the chaos of the day unfolded.

Some called this the magic hour, magical it was.

In the distance they watched as the boats began to ready themselves in the harbour – they would not return until sunset later that day and what they’d uncover or discover out on the rough, dirty waters was anyones guess.

For now it was simply a time to take a deep breath, observe the cool breeze and listen to the sounds of nature.
 
This one landed in the inbox a few weeks back and has been on repeat ever since. A dreamy, melodic affair channeling the best elements of downtempo, trip hop, acid, house and everything in between. A really well balanced record which has a little bit of everything we like. Soos is relatively new on our radar but that all changes now.

The birds spoke their own majestic language amongst the tall, tall trees. They were hidden away out of sight between the green shrubbery and the dusty leaves. Within the greenhouse they could not be disturbed by forces beyond the glass, no predator or villain was here to catch them up there amongst the blossoming swamp. The noise echoed in the chamber of light, the noise from outside was gone, wiped away by the silent tomb of the isolated space. 

Tambo's House have found a home on Vulcan Venti as the label prepares to release a four track EP packed with rhythmic influences from the East.

Nathan Surreal returns with another EP for Biologic Records. ’A Change Of Heart’ is due for digital-only release on June 29th.

‘A Change Of Heart’ is a cathartic peak time workout full of radiant vocal bursts and ricocheting percussion. ‘Kanakotoba’ is a blissful ambient stepper full of dubby echoes and crisp percussion. For his remix of ‘Where Were We’, Lord Of The Isles brandishes warm, expansive pads amongst sharp broken beats.

On the same day as this EP, the label will also release a vinyl-only EP featuring a joint effort from Nathan Surreal and Herzel, with further remixes by Marquis Hawkes and Lord Of The Isles.
