Taking us on a sleazy, strobe lit tour of the darker corners of clubland Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX is the second compilation curated for Eskimo Recordings by Luca Venezia, aka Curses. Threading the needle between early industrial, EBM, post-punk experiments and some of the most exciting music being made today, the 49 track compilation also features some of Luca's own exclusive remixes such as his 'Revamp' of New Beat classic J.W.B. Hits The Beat's 'Body On Body'.

Originally released back in 1987, Curses' remix brings the track right up date, pushing the tempo and toughening up the drums whilst stripping it back down to focus on the portentous choral synth pads and teasing us with its ecstatic vocal samples before the effervescent Italo melody brings it all together. A perfect synthesis of past and present, much like the compilation it's taken from.

One of the compilations of 2023 Curses' Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX saw the Berlin-based Musician and DJ explore the darker side of club music. Bringing together 49 tracks that joined the dots between early industrial pioneers, EBM legends and post-punk bands with some of the most exciting artists around today this was a celebration of the kind of raw electronic music best performed live in smoke filled clubs.

One might suspect that between this and the first equally acclaimed, and substantial, Next Wave Acid Punx album clubland's gothic vaults might be eerily empty. But, just as every good live act knows, you should hold something special back for an encore, and so Curses is back with Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX - Secret Cuts, 11 bonus tracks that all deserve their own moment in the strobe light.

"Curating Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX was a big puzzle," explains Curses. "Figuring out how to fit all these tracks across 6 different 12"s required a lot of calculations and, to be quite frank, I was never that great at maths. Unfortunately this meant we had to cut some real heaters off of DEUX. But Eskimo and I decided that we couldn't let these gems go to dust. I've been DJing them loads in my sets, so it was only fair to share them with y’all to DJ and rage to yourselves. So, here it is... the final blast of bonus tracks for Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX: Secret Cuts."

Featuring the likes of Ghost Cop, Paresse, Nuovo Testamento, You Man, plus a new Curses track and Redux version, Secret Cuts is a worthy companion piece, packed full of the kind of jagged synths, jackhammer kickdrums, heavily gated snares and punk attitude that saw Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX named a BBC 6 Music compilation of the week, score a perfect 10 from Faze Mag and go straight in the record bag of every DJ that appreciates the darker things in life.

"Hot Flashes" is a dynamic fusion EP born from the creative alliance of Ukrainian artists Vladyslav Putistin and Lvcerate, each embodying a contrasting aspect of EBM and Italo music. 

Putistin's tracks resonate with the exuberance of Italo disco, bringing an upbeat and vivacious energy to the EP. Lvcerate counters this with a darker, more intense EBM influence, crafting tracks that delve into the more mysterious and brooding corners of the genre. Melding into a powerful, cohesive sound that captivates with its intensity and the sharp contrast between their musical philosophies. 

"Hot Flashes" promises to be an electrifying journey through the spectrum of emotion that body music can evoke, presented through a narrative that both contrasts and complements.
Together, they create a dramatic tension within "Hot Flashes", where the joy meets the melancholic, and the light dances with the dark. 

In order to bring a new creative dimension to the original tracks, we invite Omon Breaker, Lennart, Neu Romancer & Radondo to express their own vision of body music!

For the occasion, we asked Romain FX 5 (hard) questions:

HF: How did you find this track, any particular reason why you chose this one to edit?
Romain: I found this track in a jazz specialised record shop in Hong Kong with a bunch of other middle eastern influenced records, it couldn’t have been more random to be honest but that’s the beauty of digging for records.
I’ve tried playing it out but i felt it was just missing a little push to make it a bit nastier, to make people go nuts on the dancefloor, so a couple of weird samples, an acid bassline & some touch up later... it became mayhem material (I think).

HF: What would you do if you weren’t making music?
Romain: In my coffin sleeping for eternity.

HF: Any favourite place in town?
Romain: Toilets are my favourite place they are the only place where you can truly be yourself and alone. I came up with my beat ideas taking a dump... everybody knows that but nobody wants to admit it.

HF: What is your favourite saying?
Romain: “Common sense is not that common”

HF: Do you fear karma?
Romain: I live by it, so I don’t fear it.
“You reap what you sow” is another good expression
