CLUB AMEN (02.04.2022) Deeper Liquid D'n'B

Celebrating the milestone that is episode 50 of the LLL livestream on Twitch. Thanks to my crew who choose to show up for it time and time again. You da real MVPs! My favorite part of this session was probably the first 30 minutes. Really tried to play some deeper, jazzier, minimal cuts and tried to nail the transitions smoothly. The advantage of playing a stream vs a club is I get to play some of this music I would never play for a dancefloor. I think I had a couple of slip ups this session where some mixes got away from me, trying to loop things on the fly, but hey, it happens... Will try to do better next time. Thank you guys for listening.

'Jen a.k.a Flavours is a DJ based in Milton Keynes, England. It all started for her 17 years ago on a pair of 1210" Technics, mixing a variety of Drum and Bass and Hardcore.


She enjoys a variety of Drum and Bass- Jungle, Liquid, Tech, Deep, Dark, Minimal, and Old Skool. She’s inspired by producers and DJ’s such as Alix Perez, Break, Veak, Euphonique, Duoscience, Geostatic, Phat Playaz, Calibre, Payback and going back to her first days of mixing, DJ’s and Producers such as Clipz, DJ Hype, Andy C, Bladerunner, Mickey Finn, Kenny Ken, and Mampi Swift were the reason she fell in love with the genre.


She played at a few parties just before lockdown 2020, and had a set booked for Boomtown 2020 which was unfortunately cancelled. Since the rave scene went on ‘hold’ she was mixing non stop, and was offered a monthly slot on Different Drumz radio. It’s been a deeply emotional journey for her, battling with many challenges along the way; she’s truly found herself in music!


She believes music is something that brings people together, something that everyone has in common and can share globally. She believes it’s a healer like nothing else in the world. With her eclectic mix of different styles of Drum and Bass, she takes you on a journey through the genre, to showcase and spread the good vibes and sounds DnB has to offer. Here are some words from Steve himself regarding the mix - "A bit of background to the mix, I put this together with one hand after having an operation on my right shoulder due to a football injury. (I hope you can't tell too much!)

I tried to put together a mix that captured the energy of the big atmospheric tunes from the mid-90s using tracks produced today. it's one to play loud on a big system rather than chill out to. I hope you enjoy it!" 

Some more details on Funk Freeka - I am based on the Central Coast of NSW, one hour north of Sydney, Australia, DJ Funk Freeka was originally introduced to electronic music in the early 90’s Sydney rave scene.

I made the ‘logical progression’ from happy hardcore to house, trance and breakbeat before discovering drum and bass. 

From the imported jungle mix tapes of Kenny Ken and Randall, Steve stumbled across LTJ Bukem and became hooked on the deeper, atmospheric sounds. 

Steve began DJing eight years ago as a personal challenge on his 40th birthday and has played at Sounds of Liquid Sydney (SOLIS) as well as Sydney Rave History Mixathons and had mixes featured on the Sound Stream Sessions, Medit DnB and Dance Techno podcasts.

Funk Freeka's musical journey has seen a natural evolution, progressing from happy hardcore to house, trance, and breakbeat, until eventually finding a deep connection with drum and bass.

During his travels in the UK, he stumbled upon the captivating sounds of LTJ Bukem, which left a lasting impact, drawing him towards the mesmerising and atmospheric aspects of the genre.
