Deersky’s Soundteller Records opens the month of September by welcoming 2UP and Sergio Avila for a collaborative EP. Based in Chicago, Sergio made his Soundteller debut in 2020 with a contribution to the label’s popular ‘Vibrant Vibeland’ series. Meanwhile, 2UP who is based in Mexico makes his label debut. Together the duo have delivered a well received release for Dear Deer’s Black division and now they join forces once again on Soundteller with ‘Introspection’.

Known for their peak time sounds, the title selection continues the duo’s penchant for unabashedly epic music. Firing beats, machine gun style rhythms and a tight, rolling arp lay the foundation for a smashing dance floor slam. Vocal overlays add depth and character at timely moments as atmospheric phrasing, buzzing stabs and glassy clusters marry for magic moments leading into the break. Progressively more melodic across the centrepiece, the duo elevates mood with symphonic style motifs, before pulling back for a hypnotic drop and driving finale.

The companion piece ‘The Under’ lowers the tempo a touch but is equally powerful with it’s muscular groove and devilish electronics. Once again vocal elements add a complementary touch, playing off delicate arps and timely clap delays across the first act. The main break serves to elevate mood through further development of the vocal, before wisely pulling back for a thumping drop and key changing finish. It rounds out two monstrous tracks from 2UP and Sergio Avila, a duo who seem to have found a great creative synergy. Highly recommended.

After a rare week off, Deersky’s Soundteller Records welcomes Michael Kortenhaus to the label for his debut single. Based in München, the German artist first appeared earlier this year with a string of projects for Bynomic’s Another Life Music, where he released his debut album in March. His blend of dub techno, progressive house and melodic house & techno quickly found it’s way to Soundteller affiliate ‘Provider Music’, who released Michael’s ‘Closer’ EP in July. Now stepping up to parent label Soundteller, Michael presents his ‘Am Rand Der Stille’ single, alongside remixes from Dysco and Ric Niels.

The original leads the release off and encompasses much of Michael’s unique blend of styles. From a hazy dub techno style backdrop comes some progressive flavoured musicality. Icy pads marry perfectly with glowing swells across the first act, as charming vocal fragments and cascading tones carry the narrative into a well constructed break. Emotive chord changes and processed piano’s make for a gorgeous second act, eventually setting up a smooth bridge into a groovy finale.

Returning to the label and providing the first interpretation is Dysco. The American artist first appeared on the Polish imprint with a contribution to the label’s popular ‘Vibrant Vibeland’ series in July of last year. Written in conjunction with Juan Ibanez, ‘Euphoric Seas’ was the highlight of the release and was favoured by a wide number of progressive DJs for it’s peak time energy. Also finding a home on Balkan Connection, Droid9 and SLC-6 Music, Dysco now returns to Soundteller with a smooth rendition of ‘Am Rand Der Stille’. The overall vibe of the original is well maintained with the vocals and drone-like soundscapes getting utilized beautifully. Taking centrestage is a bubbly sounding arp which runs through the entire first act, before getting washed away in favour of captivating effects during the main break, and eventually reappearing as the beats drop for a spirited final act.

The release concludes with Ric Niels returning to the label and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Am Rand Der Stille’. Although his first release was just 18 months ago, the Argentinean artist has already built an impressive resume with releases via 3rd Avenue, Balkan Connection, Clubsonica and Movement Recordings, while earning the support of Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J. Now making his fourth appearance on Soundteller, Ric turns in a classy remix of ‘Am Rand Der Stille’. Known for his sleek, driving style, the Argentinean artist opts for a dubbier approach here, using the vocals both sparsely and indistinctly. Arpeggiated fragments and emotive swells highlight the journey, coming to a gentle apex during the main break and ushering in a finale of harmonic overlays. Gorgeous stuff from Ric, which rounds out an excellent Soundteller debut for Michael Kortenhaus. Don’t miss it.

Rounding out the month of October, Tash's Movement Recordings welcomes Dabeat to the label for his debut EP. Sitting as one of Colombia's premiere progressive house talents, David Barragan aka Dabeat has enjoyed a steady rise since first emerging in 2008 with a release courtesy of Beatfreak Recordings. The next decade saw David perfect his craft with a sound that many describe as groovy, dynamic and emotional. Now laying claim to an impressive discography, the Santiago de Cali resident has showcased his music via Cid Inc's Replug Records, Nick Warren's Hope Recordings, Clubsonica Records, Mango Alley and Proton Music, while continuing to receive play and support from the genre's premiere tastemakers. Now continuing what has been an inspired year, Dabeat makes his Movement Recordings debut with a four-track showcase entitled 'Resonance'.

Getting the release underway with 'Istila', Dabeat collaborates with fellow countryman Zalvador. As occasional studio partners, the duo have recorded joint productions for D-Nox's Sprout, Mango Alley, Univack and more. Aiming squarely at a peak time dance floor 'Istila' sets the tone for the release with its infectious grooves, buzzing effects and warm, breezy overlays. Tantalizing arps emerge leading into the main break, acting as a perfect bridge into an interlude where emotive melodies marry placid pads onwards to a heartfelt finale.

Selection two finds Dabeat collaborating with frequent studio partner and progressive music star Kamilo Sanclemente. Long regarded as one of Colombia's foremost electronic music talents, the Cali resident has found a home on Anjunadeep, Clubsonica, Songspire and The Soundgarden, while earning continued support from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Guy J. Now paired with Dabeat once again the duo deliver the EP's title selection 'Resonance'. Tight and rhythmic in all the right ways; fiery percussion and wavy arps set the course for aural enlightenment. Emotive chord changes transcend time and space across the first act, providing a poignant anchor for metallic motifs and shapeshifting melodies to work their magic during a thrilling conclusion.

The release concludes with two solo productions from Dabeat, beginning with the meditative sounds of 'Holofractal'. Its pulsating groove is perfectly contoured, adorned with rhythmic waves, delicate arps and colourful chord stabs. Glowing pads advance narrative, moving through poignant chord changes, while adding depth and emotion leading into the main break. Moving from placid soundscapes to cosmic creativities, the interlude not only shifts mood but builds tension towards a thumping drop and playful finale.

The final selection 'Sacrana' follows suit and is well in line with the previous track with its free flowing, trippy style. A marriage of emotive harmonics dazzle across the first act, sitting atop a fluid, progressive minded groove and layers of driving percussion. Once again, the main break is set to delight dance floors with its emotional disposition and tasteful build, which perfectly shift energy into a fluid, key changing finale. Exhilarating and memorable, it rounds out a welcome Movement Recordings debut for Dabeat, a highly talented artist who continues to be one of Colombia's most exciting progressive house producers.
