Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint rounds out the summer season by welcoming Tristan Case back to the label for his debut EP. Renowned for his dreamy yet reassuringly tough and beautifully balanced approach to deep house, UK born, Australia based artist Tristan Case has carved out a sound all his own. From his 2020 debut on Do Not Sit On The Furniture to more recent offerings via Flug Lab, onedotsixtwo and UGENIUS Music, the Sydney resident has enjoyed a three-year creative swell. Sound Avenue has also been a landing spot for Tristan's organic sounds, with a contribution to Volume Four of the imprint's popular 'Correlation' series marking his label debut in April of last year. This well received first offering would lead to 2022 remixes of Mariner + Domingo and Nopi, both of which were written in conjunction with Australian artist Tam Barlow. Now returning to the label in solo capacity once again, Tristan presents 'Aurora's Story' alongside a remix from Barry Jamieson. 

EP opener and title selection 'Aurora's Story' finds Tristan operating at the peak of his creative powers. Fuelled by emotion and groove; its warm voluptuous basslines, liquid-like rhythms and tight percussive arrangements resonate on a transcendent level. Deep and melodic across the first movement, Tristan continues his elusive ways with balmy overlays, arpeggiated fragments and panning effects creating a bridge into the main break. Sitting in a poignant yet thought provoking space, a stunning melodic narrative captivates as the interlude evolves, flowing through fluttery motifs and colourful textures as tasteful modulation spearheads a groove-centric drop and nostalgic finale.

Making his label debut and providing the lone interpretation of 'Aurora's Story' is Barry Jamieson. Born and raised in England but now based in New York, the UK artist has had a hand in some of electronic music's most revered tracks. From engineering some of Sasha's career defining productions, to remixing New Order, The Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode, Orbital, Madonna, Seal and more, Barry has been one of the most transcendent figures in the evolution of electronic music. More recently Barry's inimitable production touch has found a home on ICONYC, Mango Alley, Proton and Replug. Now adding Sound Avenue to his resume Barry debuts on the label with a stunning rendition of 'Aurora's Story'. With a greater club sensibility, Barry takes inspiration from the original, remodeling the track into a dizzying dance floor slam. Complete with a spectacular effects narrative, hyperactive rhythms and a forest of fresh sonic details, it's an adrenalized energy-rush for the ages - one where Barry lands sounding bigger than ever.

Rounding out the release are the broken beats and earnest musicality of 'Twelveslept'. From buoyant upbeat beginnings come heartfelt themes and striking percussive arrangements which captivate leading into the break. Looking to bring greater emotional depth, Tristan reaffirms his musical prowess with heartfelt harmonics, choir-like overlays and balmy effects which play across the main break, only to be washed away in a timely fashion for a goosebump inducing conclusion. Tristan continues to impress with his Sound Avenue return, a three-track affair which continues an incredible year for the fast-rising progressive phenom.

Premiere: Monojoke - Promised Land [For Senses Records]

Clubsonica Records continues a strong spring season by welcoming K Loveski and Geronimo Eguiguren to the label for their debut EP. Russian artist K Loveski has been a beloved figure of the progressive house underground for well over a decade. A series of releases for Omid 16B's Alola Records spearheaded what has been a thirteen-year creative swell. The Saint-Petersburg resident now boasts a resume highlighted by releases via Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, Balance Music, Mango Alley and Or Two Strangers, while also earning the support of Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J along the way. Meanwhile, Argentinean artist Geronimo Eguiguren has also made his mark since first emerging in 2019. Longstanding imprints Balkan Connection, Droid9 and Soundteller Records were comfortable homes for Geronimo early on. However, it was 2022 which proved to be a breakout year for the Buenos Aires resident, with a release via Antrim's Or Two Strangers yielding play and support from Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo and Sebastien Leger. Now, combining their extensive forces for the first time, K Loveski and Geronimo Eguiguren make their Clubsonica debut with 'Chaia | Kamikaze', alongside remixes from Simos Tagias and Ruben Karapetyan. 

Beginning with 'Chaia' K Loveski and Geronimo Eguiguren masterfully synthesize their talents into one singular progressive minded vision. Warm beats and a full, rolling groove set the foundation for a narrative of youthful vocal fragments, cosmic effects and heartfelt harmonics. Pushing a melodic mood into the break; the duo marries emotive chord changes with balmy synth phrasing; building emotion with each successive pass as additional vocal fragments tease the senses, before eventually giving way to a thumping drop and groovy finale. The companion piece 'Kamikaze' continues the groovy lean of the release and lands with an equally impressive display of craftsmanship. Smooth and uplifting throughout, it's a foundation of warm pulsating beats and chunky bass stabs which set the course for effervescent effects, whimsical vocal elements and panoramic synths to captivate leading into the break. Charming synth phrases and choir-like pads further the story as the centrepiece unfolds, bringing with them reflective moods and serene qualities, before a tasteful drop puts your senses on high for an emotive conclusion.

The first interpretation of 'Kamikaze' is provided by Simos Tagias. Clubsonica has been a comfortable home for the Greek artist, having remixed two projects for the label beginning with his debut in 2018. Now, following his latest vehicle for GMJ and Matter's Meanwhile, Simos makes a welcome return to Clubsonica with a poignant rendition of 'Kamikaze'. While maintaining the elusive spirit of the original, the Greek artist crafts a sweeping sonic experience all his own, one where redolent themes and heartfelt sonics blanket voluptuous grooves and flashing percussive arrangements. Coming to full fruition across the main break, it's a bucolic college of texture and effects which serves to elevate mood onwards to a thumping finale. 

The release concludes with Ruben Karapetyan. Now, following a contribution to The Soundgarden's Winter Sampler, Ruben makes his Clubsonica debut with a powerful take on ‘Kamikaze´. Smooth and inviting across the first movement, Ruben continues his stylized ways with rippling grooves, precise percussive arrangements and whimsical melodies creating a colourful path into the main break. Sitting comfortably in an emotive yet thought provoking space, luminous effects and sweeping harmonies rise out of calming atmospheres as the interlude evolves, eventually breaking off as a flurry of drums sparks a pulsating drop and charming finale. A stunning remix from Ruben, which rounds out an impressive label debut from K Loveski and Geronimo Eguiguren, an artist duo who continues to impress and rise in the world of progressive house.

MHR523 Victor Crain - Crystals EP [Out April 28]

Deersky’s Soundteller Records opens the month of May by welcoming Sanula to the label for his debut single. The Sri Lankan artist first came to our attention in 2021 with ‘Aura’. Released via the AirXone Musik imprint, it’s deeper midtempo vibe would set the course for a future project on Deepshine Music and a continued exploration of sound. Now working with more of a progressive influence, Sanula debuts on Soundteller with ‘Misterious Wind’, alongside remixes from CaThY K, Paul Hamilton and Ewan Rill.

The original mix finds a nice balance between the deeper melodic vibes of Sanula’s past tracks and more of a driving progressive house feel. Pace wise it’s quite energetic with warm, rolling grooves and hypnotizing percussion pushing momentum forward. Spacey arps continue to emerge leading into the break, while nostalgic chord changes bring further emotive qualities, ultimately flowing through the centerpiece, before a rush of drums and noise cues a classy drop and uplifting finale.

Also included on the release are three remixes beginning with CaThY K who returns to the label following a remix of Paul Hamilton’s ‘Nothing Matters’ in 2022. The Maltese artist beefs up the low end considerably with full muscular grooves setting the foundation for those great arps to work their magic. CaThY adds to the narrative across the break with ghostly vocal wails and more textural depth, eventually leading to a goosebump worthy build and exhilarating conclusion.

Soundteller stalwart Paul Hamilton is next up and makes his tenth appearance on the label, following on from a remix of ‘Spiritual Lights’ by India’s Influence to begin the year. The veteran artist does what he does best here and delivers a mature, club friendly version that breathes amazingly well and knows exactly how much space to fill throughout it’s near eight minute running time. The arps get dubbed down here comparatively but do eventually emerge albeit in a less boisterous fashion, keeping the focus on rhythm and groove. Most definitely a dancefloor delight from Paul.

The release concludes with a second Soundteller stalwart Ewan Rill who makes his seventieth appearance on the label. The Sever Records boss remains one of the progressive scenes longest tenured artists and perhaps one of it’s most prolific and underrated. The great thing about Ewan’s remixes is they always feel different from the original and his ‘Misterious Wind’ interpretation is no different. Even though the main arps get used liberally, the tracks framework is remarkably fresh and rhythmically very different than the previous versions, add to that a colourful array of effects and you’ve got another impressive Ewan Rill production which rounds out the release on a strong note.
