Welcome to Inside Source #1, our regular audio journal on the events and people making the news in the Sourcefabric community.

Inside Source #3: Espionage and journalistic excellence in Georgia

We're in Tbilisi, capital of Georgia, to talk with Eka Chitanava, a journalist working with Liberali - one of the country's few independent news outlets.

Eka tells us about her first assignment - covering the conflict with Russia in 2008 - and investigations into the post-war settlements that sprung up around the capital afterwards. She also talks about he growing gap between rich and poor and whether she's hopeful for the future of independent media in Georgia.

Inside Source #4: A young person's guide to reporting on conflict in Georgia

Mediafabric, a one day conference on news media, will take place on October 21st 2011 in Prague. Speakers include former MI5-agent Annie Machon, Nepali Times founder Kunda Dixit and Leo Prieto, founder of the most popular Spanish-speaking blog in the world.

With ten presentations taking the form of "visual essays", the conference aims to return to the roots of journalism with concise focuses on the what, who, why, when and where of contemporary news media. 

Speakers include Annie Machon, who was an intelligence officer for MI5 in the 1990s before leaving to become a media sensation with her whistleblowing. Mariano Blejman has built software to automatically extract data from the crime documents of Argentina's last military dictatorship. Kunda Dixit is one of Nepal's leading journalists and editors (founder editor of  Nepali Times) and an international authority on the press in Asia. Leo Prieto pioneered the web design industry in Chile and is the founder of FayerWayer, the most popular blog in the Spanish-speaking world.﻿

Azeenarh Mohammed is a Nigerian social media journalist, commentator, blogger and star. She's also a bad poetry lover, horse enthusiast, food addict and adrenaline junkie.

Here she talks to Sourcefabric's Adam Thomas (the two worked together on ecojournalism.org) about the #occupynigeria movement one year on, plus a new environmental movement that's capturing the imaginations of social networks, both online and offline.

Adam speaks with Her Excellency, the Governor of Warrap State Ms. Nyandeng Malek Dielic, and Stephen Kovats, founder of the r0g_agency for open culture and critical transformation.

Governor Nyandeng is the first female elected governor of one of South Sudan's 10 federal states and a long-term advocate of women's rights, education and empowerment. Adam and Stephen talk with her about her thoughts on open systems and open media as she tries to bring one million pastoralists into the 21st century.
