Frankfurt-based artist Sofian is relatively new to the production game, but in a short amount of time he’s made quite the splash. Following appearances on Robert Babicz’ Babiczstyle, Tronic and Phobiq, he lands his debut on Sous with the Awakening EP featuring three deep cuts of the highest order.
 
The title track is true to its name, slowly unveiling a repeated chime motif from behind a standard kick, then adding tinkling arpeggios to lull the listener into a higher state of consciousness. Bleary processed toms provide a hands-in-air moment towards the track’s end, its hypnotic journey having come full circle. 
 
“The Other Side” is similarly multifaceted. A cosmic odyssey strewn with starburst synths and bleepy arpeggiating keys, the introduction of a staunch kick drum propels the mix forward before a thick rubbery bassline takes the energy up a notch. Slightly trippy and aimed for the heavens, “The Other Side” is your soundtrack to gooey post-peak blissouts. 
 
On “Discotheka”, Sofian brings the listener from the stratosphere back to the club, evoking the eternal pull of the dancefloor through snappy snares, neon stabs and a squiggly acid bassline. Bright and bouncy with a dark undercurrent, it perfectly captures the spirit of a hedonist’s playground.
 
Showcasing three different moods and bundles of talent, Sofian’s maiden release on Sous surely won’t be his last.

In a past life, Dutch producer LUPE was a go-go dancer, and their latest release for Sous Music, 'My Name Is Desire', evokes the halcyon years of the underground vogue scene. 
 
The title track is a slamming, hi-NRG ballroom odyssey with infectious synths that whir like electric zippers and a delicious come-hither female vocal. 
 
'Ramrod', perhaps named after the infamous leather bar in New York in the ‘70s, bristles with bubbling energy. Clattering percussion, a hold-tight pace and festive vocal snatches combine in a bouncing club delight. 
 
Taking the pedal off the gas slightly, 'Miss Thing' brings the mood back from boiling point to a strong simmer. A tension building transition track, it will keep the dancefloor cooking without sending it into overdrive. 
 
'Battle Beat' shifts back into a higher gear, its driving drums and crunchy, reverbed snares channelling a more hypnotic kind of delirium. Best dropped after the party has well and truly hit its stride. 
 
Riding a long introduction, closer 'The Essence' gets a little freaky at the 2-minute mark. Disco goblin vocals and cinematic horns add an air of drama to this dark journey that’s equal parts unnerving and intoxicating. 
 
Across five uniquely captivating club cuts, LUPE demonstrates that decades of experience have enhanced rather than dulled their instinct for high-impact floor-fillers.

Berlin-raised dub house producer Basic Instinct returns to Sous Music.

In the spotlight is the title track “Radiance”, delivering atmospheric dub house vibes with a hypnotic bassline, spherical pads, and haunting vocal cuts. It's a captivating blend of energetic dub sounds that pull you right in.

German House royalty M.A.N.D.Y. joins Maga for new single ‘Time Is On My Side’ with a huge remix from our Queen Bee, Anja Schneider, and the vocals from Inga Humpe. 

M.A.N.D.Y. needs little introduction. Founder of Get Physical, producer, DJ and events organiser Patrick Bodmer is what every ‘90s DJ wanted to be when they grew up! From his albums for UK Clubbing behemoth Fabric to his festival show-stopping ‘Body Language’ and beyond, M.A.N.D.Y. is a legend and pioneer of the German scene. French producer MAGA is known for his melodic, organic and minimalistic sounds. Releasing on a range of labels including Scenarios and Flying Circus, his near decade at the top of his game has been an interesting ride. 

Berlin native and front woman for 2raumwohnung, Inga Humpe has been active in the industry for over four decades. Considered “an amazing talent with the best voice” by Anja Schneider no less, Inga’s sizable and sonically diverse catalogue covers everything from Punk (with Neonbabies), to ‘Codo’ (produced by her sister Anette as ‘80s pop act, DÖF) to solo chart success ‘Riding into the Blue (Cowboy Song)’ produced by Grammy award winner Trevor Horn (The Buggles/Art of Noise) and, more recently, a co-writing credit for ‘Automatic Love’ for Kylie Minogue in 2000. As potent a force in the industry as ever, she is currently gearing up for an already sold out European tour with 2raumwohnung celebrating their 21st anniversary. 

Opening in ambience, delayed percussions and warm pads invite you in. Taking its time to develop, melodics and vocal ad libs sweep in and out before the main vocals kick things up a notch. Deep, soulful and utterly beguiling. On remix duties, Anja toughens the groove for the early morning sweatathon. Adding even more melodic elements to the main motifs breathes new life into an already genre-defining work of art. Miss this at your peril!

Liverpool lads Zac Fitzsimmons and Tony Burns are two of the most industrious producers in the business, pumping out Matrefakt releases on Shall Not Fade, Edible, Of Unsound Mind, Circus, Trick and their own Attitude to Life label over the past few years. 'Burn' EP, Matrefakt’s third release for Anja Schneider’s Sous Music, finds the pair in characteristic fine form. 
 
The title track hits the ground running, announcing itself with a wallopping kick, tickling hi-hats and a juddering bassline that guides the listener towards a festival-ready confection of hypnotic bleeps and chunky beats. 
 
'Rock' takes on a vaguely tribal flavour with circular drum patterns designed to move hips, snatched vocal samples and delicious guitar licks invoking the funk of millennium-era French touch.
 
They change tack again on 'Crystal', which oscillates between big-room techno and Moroder-esque space disco to dramatic effect. It’s darker than the previous two cuts, perfect for soundtracking early morning journeys inward and again demonstrating Matrefakt’s remarkable range. 
 
Venezuelan-born, Colombian-based producer Confidential Recipe (Rekids) turns in an eyes-down remix of 'Burn', stripping the bassline out of the original to create a more intense afterhours energy.
 
Hot off the back of a recent appearance at Creamfields, Matrefakt’s Watergate debut in March and mixes for Peggy Gou’s Gudu Records and Sarah Story’s Future Dance show on BBC Radio1, Matrefakt are poised for the big time. 
 
Of their latest release on Sous, the duo say, “the label is really becoming a home for us and we are made to feel so welcome by everyone every time. We are also really happy to have Confidential Recipe on the remix for this release, we know Anja is a big fan of what he does and we are too!”

Amsterdam-based DJ and producer LUPE has had a love affair with acid house that stretches back to their childhood. Jack Trax's seminal 1988 compilation Acid House was a Christmas gift from LUPE's parents, and it's clear that the album and its sounds remain a key influence to this day. 
 
You can hear it on the title track on their May The Acid Be With You EP, a stormy acid-techno cut laced with hissing hi-hats, rattling snares and squelchy low end. Cheeky vocal snatches add character as the track ramps up in intensity. 
 
'Hard to Resist' is a woozy early hours track, its high-pitched flutey synths proving the perfect foil for clattering percussion, the murkiest of basslines and the titular vocal loop. 
 
The springy bassline on 'Hope' curls around chiming keys to insistent, hypnotic effect, making for a Latino-esque acid track perfect for revivifying dancefloors. 
 
To close, New York producer Avision turns up the energy on his 'May The Acid Be With You' remix. With teasing stabs and walloping drums he creates builds and drops where they previously didn't exist, then loops the vocal and adds huge chords for extra euphoria. 
 
LUPE's second EP on Sous in as many years is an impressive extension of their dark and sexy sound. Of the release, LUPE says, "I want to go into a zone where acid house, techno, and NYC Ballroom tracks are merged. Jaymie Silk doesn’t make straight up-and-down techno or house music. The Paris-based artist draws from a range of influences informed by his Afro-European heritage, his teen years as a rap producer and a subsequent move to Montreal, where he fell into the city’s ballroom scene. The result is truly idiosyncratic music that’s as richly varied as his path. 
 
Free The Nip is yet another example of the prolific producer’s inability to be pigeonholed. The tracks here all feature speedy, energetic percussion, but adopt different personalities via their unique styles. 
 
On 'Keep Moving', a stately vocal loop, based on a speech from Martin Luther King, is laid over a whomping techno kick and propulsive maraca rhythms on speed. 
 
A hypnotic vocal loop also drives 'Concentrate', with discordant violin synths adding tension to the driving beat, while sax synths deliver surprising funk in the track’s tail end. 
 
The title track sounds something like a Pride anthem, busting out from a glowy subdued synths into a full throttle party track with a rousing, lusty vocal and celebratory percussion.
 
This energy continues on 'Ghetto Tribal Break', loaded with a rumbling breakdown, reverbed Eurodance synths and layer upon layer of boisterous beats. 
 
'Brotherhood' is probably the hardest to categorise of the lot. A funky bassline, tribal percussion, weird FX and distorted vocals converge in the chorus, which sounds like something Prince might have produced on an acid bender. 
 
"After the epidemic of super-fast techno and house tracks dominated by rigid rhythms in recent years, it was time to add some groove to the music,” Silk says of the EP. “It's an ode to freedom, driven by percussive rhythms. A celebration of love and positivism with no taboo.”
 
Freedom is a driving force in Silk’s music, both in its political message, whether subtle or overt, and in his refusal to play by stylistic “rules”. Sous is delighted to present the latest thrilling instalment from a one-of-a-kind talent.

Following a hiatus, Bristol-based Ryan Artifact, fka Artifact, has reunited with Anja Schneider to put out the Let It Go EP, a storming new release on Sous Music. 
 
The title track is a big-room weapon of the highest order. A thick, rich bassline forms the backbone of the track, in which all elements are polished to a hi-shine. The repeated vocal snatch is subtle but hypnotic, the drums are delicate but purposeful, and gentle synth flourishes provide just the right amount of intrigue. 
 
“The Way It Did” is just as impressive, with another whomping bassline doing the heavy lifting. Playing like a sister track to “Let It Go”, it features a similar vocal grab and tight, considered arrangements, but picks up the pace and adds a peppy build. The resulting track is a surefire weapon at night and day parties alike, guaranteed to get the dancefloor rocking. 
 
“Believe Nothing” completes this family of tracks, with all three complementing each other. Built around a rocking beat, lively chords, tetchy choral synths and the same detached vocal, this one, primed for warmup or cool-down duties, is made to keep the party simmering. 
 
Ryan’s relationship with Schneider began in 2017, when he was putting out equally killer tunes on her back-then Mobilee label. The Let It Go EP follows the inclusion of Ryan’s track “However Far Forward” on a Sous compilation last year and sees him in the same fine form we’ve come to expect from him.

Nearly twenty years after her first release, Anja Schneider is still one of the hardest-working artists in electronic music. As well as helming her own Sous Music record label, she's in demand as an internationally touring DJ, and when she's not running the business or behind the decks, she's creating a constant stream of new music, both original productions and remixes. 

This year saw the release of The Good, The Bad and The Acid EP on her own Sous, and the On My Mind EP for Shall Not Fade alongside no less than six remixes. 
 
Her final release of 2023, Rudeless, is also the last EP of the year for Sous. It sees the label boss continuing to flirt with darkness and light to make her tracks as functional as they're memorable, threaded with sophisticated emotion. 
 
The title track starts out cold, with wintry synths and a thumping kick, but the vocal that drifts into the mix is warm, soulful and uplifting, chased by clattering percussion designed to move hips. It's gospel house with a modern twist; a 2023 club track with echoes of early Detroit.
 
“Just Us Going” is another study in contrasts, this time between a rubbery, hard bassline and a molasses Robert Owens-like vocal. It's frosty, refined and slightly foreboding, primed to work witching hour dancers into hypnotic oblivion.
 
To finish, rising Uruguayan talent Diego Infanzon gives “Rudeless” the big-room treatment, passing the mix through a bleary filter, adding razor-sharp stabs and later, sprinkles of bright keys and strings to accentuate a roof-raising drop. 
 
Still working her magic after nearly two decades, Schneider will embark on a celebratory anniversary tour next year, with some re-releases and remixes also in the works to mark the occasion properly. Lucky for us, the queen is showing no sign of slowing.

Uruguayan producer and DJ Diego Infanzon is on fire. A fixture on Christian Smith's Tronic label who has also released on Laurent Garnier's Cod3 and Carl Cox's Intec, here he returns to Sous after a stellar debut on the label last year with his Ohh My Music EP.
 
Oscuridad Lunar — Spanish for “dark moon” — might be only two tracks long, but it packs plenty of punch. 
 
“La Luna” opens the release with a thumping kick and subtle rattle underneath propelling the track forward. Rhythmic, hypnotic repeating chords are introduced before a female vocal weaves in and out of the mix like the moonlight dancing on the water. Dark and enveloping, it's bound to rock any warehouse it's played in. 
 
“Together” is a very different beast; it's a house track with techno in its DNA. The thick beat is still there, but syncopated beats are brought in to add intrigue before bright keys bubble up through the mix. A throaty male vocal adds a burst of soul, while filtered, stuttering vocal FX set this one apart from your typical house track. If “La Luna” is made for the night, “Together”, with its high BPM and uplifting vibe, feels perfect for a beach club on a sunny afternoon.
 
A mighty double shot from a thrilling rising star, Oscuridad Lunar affirms that Diego Infanzon is going places and we're delighted to showcase his talent on Sous.

Following on from her critically acclaimed album ‘SoMe’ comes a trio of remixes that represent the different shades of Anja Schneider’s new Sous Music imprint. 

Butch is a long-time friend and respected colleague of Anja’s and championed ‘All I See’ from early on, begging her for a copy after seeing her play it at Street Parade. His re-work felt fated, but that didn’t mean it was easy. “I know it was a difficult one for him to do. We didn’t expect the track to be such a huge hit, so I was very interested to see what he’d do. He’s done an amazing job!” she buzzes. Butch delivers an inspired off-kilter minimal house interpretation, that’s heavy on mood without losing the spirit of her original.

Since bursting onto the scene back in 2009, Markus has stayed faithful to his minimal tech roots, creating mind-altering releases for everyone from Rekids to Figure by way of his own SCKT imprint. An artist at heart, his music is very often made without a dance floor in mind: testament to his studio craft that he’s become such a potent force in the scene.   Lead track, ‘6AM’ is an homage to the early morning groovers, who, blurry-eyed, still inhabit the floor when everyone else has left the club. The true heads who appreciate the ebb and flow of a night and grasp onto the embers with joyous abandon. Reflective and somber, muted chords work against ricochet sonics as Suckut’s hypnotic power takes you over for one last hurrah before the lights come on.

Anja Schneider’s Sous imprint has fast become a permanent home for Anja’s more experimental productions as well as providing her with the chance to bring some of her favourite artists to the label. In the last two years, we have enjoyed releases from Billy Turner, Madben, Mella Dee, Fort Romeau and most recently Markus Suckut. All of which have collectively bought a diverse palette of music to Sous.

Asio (aka R-Play) is a Parisian based producer who’s career quickly became noted in 2007 after he broke into the French techno scene with his tracks signed to Harthouse, Synewave and Suara. Anja brings this new name to Sous this October with 3 original cuts on his EP ‘Dada’.  Opening things is the title track ‘Dada’. Instantly we’re drawn into a groovy deep bass track with sparse percussion. As the various layers reveal themselves, a sinister energy grows. The track then explodes into life at the drop. ‘Last Day in Space’ is a subtle tribal groove. Swinging off beat hats keep time as the layers of melody and percussion fade into earshot. A track of light and dark where patience is rewarded by a huge payoff. 

Finally, ‘Sol Sol’ employs interesting FX to the drums creating a wonky feel from the off. Once the synths kick in the wonk gets much wonkier!

Asio (aka R - Play) - Dada

Inspired by the calling to get back to the good old times, both tracks nod nostalgically to care-free vibes of days past. The pumping tribal groove of 'Seduction' energetically underpinning hazy, mesmerising pads and playful piano tones that roll in and out as tension builds to a peak. While 'Mitte' ups the ante with its swirling synths, driving bassline and rave stabs evoking a smiley e-vibe as the energy of '90s trance is crafted to contemporary dance floors.

After 20 years in the scene, I have to be honest I never heard this before and never met someone with so much creative potential and positive energy. Its a blast from the past into the future.

It was not often that I was blown away so easily … Its something you have to take a listen and step away to make space for the future generation. It's all about construction and industrial aesthetics

BAUGRUPPE90 - Valor

After making their debut on Sous in December last year, the brand-new German duo BAUGRUPPE90 made an impression on Anja with their positive energy and hugely creative potential. So, it’s no surprise to see them up first on remix duties, where they create a rougher, tougher, warehouse edge to the original. Whilst upping the tempo they manage to keep the groove.

This latest two-tracker has a more familiar deep house blueprint. “I found that the experimentation I played with on my previous two releases has given me the confidence to introduce more creative flare or create musical moments within this style” says Anja.

‘Turning My Head’ is built on a low-slung tribal rhythm. There is a deep, growling bass that provides a contrast with the classic spoken vocal and dancing flute tones. “I wanted to create a slow burning progression in the track that evokes the humid thumping heartbeat of late-night energy charged dark rooms which I have missed so much these past 9 months” adds Anja.

‘Strange Case’ is a jacked-up deep house track with differently instrumented phases that use sounds that stand out like the enchanted plucked strings or the harmonic steel drum reverberations.
