Poetry International celebrates it's 50th anniversary this year. 
Established in 1967 by Ted Hughes and Patrick Garland, the festival aimed to bring together poets as the 'voice of spirit and imagination'. 

Southbank Centre has recently begun to explore it's extensive collection related to the festival for the first time. We uncovered a range of material including letters to and from Ted Hughes, 50 year old programmes, photographs and very beautiful correspondence between Lavinia Greenlaw and Sharon Olds from nearly 25 years ago.   

To mark this special occasion, Southbank Centre has commissioned poets Hannah Silva and Victoria Adukwei Bulley to write new  poems responding to our collection.
As part of this podcast you will be able to gain a unique insight into the collection from a range of views. 

You will also  hear from poets Chris McCabe and Sophie Mayer who share some their key moments in the history of poetry!

A Poet's Guide to the Archive

We're celebrating 50 years of the Man Booker Prize this July with Man Booker 50 festival and it spurred us to look back on some of the previous Man Booker Prize winners we've had here in recent years.

In this first episode of Southbank Centre's Book Podcast, we bring together extracts from talks with four previous Man Booker Prize-winning authors here at Southbank Centre: Eleanor Catton, Richard Flanagan, Marlon James and George Saunders.

Ahead of the 2018 Man Booker Prize for Fiction, Southbank Centre welcomed the six shortlisted authors for an evening of live readings and discussion, hosted by writer columnist and playwright Damian Barr.

The Man Booker Prize is a byword for the finest literary fiction, with its list of past winners containing some of the greatest writers of the last five decades. In the running for this year’s award are the following authors, who joined us on Sunday 14 October, to read from their shortlisted novels.
