wav.world emerged out of a long-running chat exchange of mixes, tracks, and some playful speculation: If you were going to make a platform for DJ mixes in 2024, what would it look like?

Mixes are a unique type of musical expression. They capture a specific moment in time, determined by the knowledge and style of the artist. A mix is as important a creative statement as an album, remix or EP. One mix can change an artist’s career, one mix can open a listener’s mind to something completely new.

We miss the importance that mixes used to have. So, we made a platform for mixes.

Each wav.world mix gives one artist the time and resources to create whatever kind of mix they want, to share something sonic about who they are and what they love.

Every wav.world mix will feature a longform interview with the artist which gets to the heart of what moves them—in music and in life—through text, video and image. Each edition of wav.world will feature the commissioned work of music journalists, visual artists and graphic artists.

Phonica mix 124 is a truly special edition from not just one of London's finest collectors and selectors but one of our long time regulars; Nick The Record. 
Not only has Nick been a loyal friend of our shop in the years we have been open, he has also been one of the driving forces behind the London scene for nearly 30 years. Dealing records professionally to some of the biggest DJs in the world over the years as well as running several labels including his most recent outing Natural House - his knowledge in disco and house is impecible. He has displayed this in his vast deeply thought out sets over the years be it performing the closing set at some of Japan's best underground festivals or at his long running night Tangent with friend John Gomez, he is a definition of a digger. We had a chat with Nick about the mix and what he has coming up, even if we had to hold his flight to Japan for a couple of minutes!

Phonica Mix Series 124: Nick The Record

The Phonica mix series returns for 2025! Kicking off the year with a bang is one of our favorite and definitely one of the slickest underground producers of the minute Tiago Walter. Running Jisul Records (together with Nils Diezel and Ba Dum Tish's Alec Falconer) Walter has used the imprint to put out killer release after release with a unique and clean take on the tied lines between tech, soulful and deep house. This is a joint sound that you can find travelling not just throughout this hour and a half journey he has recorded for us, but at sets he has played all over Europe i.e. London's Pickle Factory or Offenbach's Robert Johnson club! So get your headphones on and prepare to bop your head to this masterclass in house music from the excellent Tiago Walter. As always we had a little chat with Tiago about the mix and what he has coming up!

Phonica reaches out to one of the finest names in Chicago for our 129th mix.
Starting off in the 90's playing from cassette tapes with a group of friends under the moniker ‘Chuck Brothers’ Rahaan started to build an extensive house and disco collection that by 1996 would come to define him as one of Chicago’s stand out house and disco DJs. This would of course secure him with residencies at ‘The Spot’ and one of Chicago’s best clubs ‘Buddha Lounge’. A reputation he would cement with gigs all over the globe in the proceeding years also giving him an audience to his skills in production that have seen him release records with reputable labels like Lumberjacks From Hell, Z Records, Hot Biscuit, BBE and more. For this mix the Chicago legend takes us on a trip with over an hour of deep, soulful and funky disco house. We had a brief chat with Rahaan about the mix and what he has coming up!
