This week's guest mix continues to spread holiday vibes and comes from a veteran DJ and expert crate-digger from Istanbul Barış K. 
With supersized bass lines and popping guitars, held together with spacey echoes and Turkish woodwinds, Baris has prepared a real treat for your listening pleasure.

Barış K’ has been deejaying at Istanbul’s venues and events since 1997. Together with fellow DJ Ismet, he hosted Istanbul’s first funk-soul parties. 
Heavily influenced by hip hop, Barış delivered weekly two obscure, slo-mo, afro, cosmic, disco, jazz and hip hop shows on Istanbul's Dinamo FM and Açık Radyo for nearly ten years before turning his attention to the native sounds of his city.
Inspired by revolutionary Turkish rock icon Baris Manco, Barış K then turned his crate-digging powers closer to home and uncovered a treasure trove of spaced-out psych-rock and hashish-stained disco. 

Bariș K came up to public attention after 2007 when he self-released the trilogy mixtape called Eurasia. This, together with his Istanbul 70 edits released on New York’s Nublu label, and a website exploring the history of Turkish music, and it’s clear that Barış’ heart is where the homeland is. arış K’s Eurasia mixes feature 70’s Turkish music deeply rooted in Anatolia and focuses deep into Turkey's hidden psychedelic funk-disco-folk era Besides his major role as a curator for the traditional Turkish folk, pop, disco, psych, prog rock, and other obscure music hybrids, he started to make his own music. The release of ‘’200’’, in 2013, sees Bariș approaching a far more diverse idea of his own sound, inspired and influenced by the majestic music heritage of his country. His remix for clarinet player Hüsnü Şenlendirici was released from Doublemoon Records.

But one of Bariș’s most interesting projects that transcend the music boundaries is the collective called Insanlar (translated in ‘people’). It is a collaboration between Bariș K, Cem Yildiz, and Hogir. The first release is called ‘Kime Ne’, a hard-nosed 24 minutes live jam of electronics combined with elements from traditional music, inspired by the Anatolian sound. Cem Yıldız is on vocals, bağlama, and electronics, Bariș on electronics and Hogir on percussion and vocal percussion. ‘Kime Ne’ inaugurates Barış' own Aboov! imprint and it is already creating a massive buzz on the electronic music scene worldwide. On the duty remix, there’s the minimal house superstar Ricardo Villalobos, who already plays it on huge crowded techno festivals from all over the world.

Free Shelter is a collective and label, hailing from the cold breezes of Helsinki, Finland. Their main goal is to find, play and share obscure music from the deep beyond. Whether it be feel-good disco from the jungles around the world, rolling trancey bass lines or pumping house from the east coast of the US, it doesn’t matter. With several edits and own productions released on their own imprint under their belt, and support from world known DJs, they aren’t slowing down just yet. The Helsinki based collective Free Shelter, consisting of Miro-Benji, Aake Kivalo, Aaron Maple and DJ Margerita, are mostly known for their edit releases (with support from every corner in the world) and their monthly radio show on IDA Radio. 
Their sound usually range from one extreme to the other. Whether it be the tackiest of guilty-pleasure disco to the rougher sounds of the spectrum in the form of photo-trance and modern breakbeat, they’re more than willing to take the task at their own hand.
