Hidden-by-the-Wall is a new soundwork by :zoviet*france: commissioned by Green Croft Arts as part of its Collision and Conflict project.

Collision and Conflict is a GPS-triggered geolocated sound walk, presented through the Echoes phone app, that follows a circular route between Walltown and Green Croft in Northumberland, UK. The route runs alongside and close by Hadrian's Wall, a vast Roman defensive fortification that runs east/west across northern England, marking the northwestern frontier of the Roman empire. While following the route, walkers can listen to each of the 14 new music, sound and spoken word Collision and Conflict compositions at the locations to which they've been allocated along the way. Hidden-by-the-Wall can be found along a stretch of open country between Walltown and Thirlwall, a high point from which the distant Scottish borders to the north and the North Pennines to the south can be seen.

In devising Hidden-by-the-Wall we set out to capture hidden and unnoticed sounds in the vicinity and recreate lost sounds that would have been heard decades ago but have now gone forever. The original field recordings that form the hidden and unnoticed sounds are here in this playlist. More about each track can be found in the description on its page.

My father's hometown is an area with a lot of snow, and I spent some time there in the winter when I was a child.
It was then that I first experienced the feeling of silence when it snowed.

That sense of silence as I walked through the falling snow may have been the catalyst for my current work in ambient music.

This music is dedicated to those snowy, beloved winter nights.

Come swim in the darkest oceans, where squirming sea snakes dance in fractal patterns to rebirth eternal bliss.

The liquid aftermath of early-world mayhem spills from the cracks of the sunken Earth, evolving between eons of quiet rancour, emerging in sudden bursts of craving for the defining disorder of Dagon's will.

It is the same eruption that laid waste to the forgotten cities in the Age of Dawning. The same that swallowed the metal ships of the Bermudan triangulum and razed the toiling enigmas of Kush. So is this a compilation?
No, this is a collaboration and huge undertaking. Over 20 artists linked studios and sound for over a year so that they could work with each other. This led to a deep collaborative exploration of the Mythos and Dagon

Enmarta returns with his second album on Cryo Chamber, The Hermit. Dusting off his Viola he tackles the dark ambient genre with a great deal of string works. Thick fog rolls in over majestic mountains as The Hermit reads his dusty books. The cold wind knocking on the rusted gate, begging the soaring tower for attention. A lingering smell of burnt oil from agitated torches left standing til dawns first light. 

Layering drone, field recordings and acoustic instrumentation, Enmarta has created something unique. Invoking an ancient era where time is stagnant and where secret wisdom stays locked away from the masses prying eyes.
