Mansion '96

Today’s premiere comes in the form of the opener track from “A Long Way,” Jacques Bon, and Drux’s forthcoming album. 
The 8-track LP starts with a bass-heavy, celestial-sounding one-minute opening scene, after which a steady kick enters, surely bound to push every dance floor it’s played on into a frenzy. A breakdown follows shortly after, topped by a subtle, chopped vocal sample. A second breakdown occurs, decreasing the energy even more before erupting into insanity again. The track sets the tone for the rest of the album: deep, dubby, and sophisticated. 

The entire release has common thematic elements woven through it yet is never dull or repetitive. Some are slow-burners perfect for warming up floors, and some will serve as big, memorable peak-time moments. Overall, an incredibly impressive album that will inevitably receive an extremely warm welcome upon its release. Business as usual from the renowned Smallville.

For our second round of WUB, we've dug deep into the vaults of two old friends from the west. Warning co-founder DJ Normal 4 and day one regular Bufiman, both beloved for their individual work but also legendary for their 2017 collaborative The 5 Elements EP on Aiwo Rec.

Now, two extensive recordings from the same period have been unearthed and finally brought to the light they deserve. While Begleitautomatik takes you on a wild ride through breakbeats, balearic and peak time acid fire, you'll get a deep trip on Das Untere Manual - their very own take on dub techno.

To the Germans do we look for today’s premiere as a rare appearance from one of the core Giegling members, Edward lands on Smallville for his debut release on the label. The combination of these two is not one to be ignored as the four track EP, titled ‘Eddie Green’ contains all the hallmarks of an Edward release. Fast paced, hypnotic and groovy deep house, to techno infused vibes, and dubbed out house, that has moved many a floor into a dancing frenzy.

So Slow rounds the release out, coming as B2 and emphasizes the jazzier, introspective side of Edward. The aptly titled track forgoes the upbeat tempos of the prior in favor of a subdued beat and piano melody that rises and falls with the undulations of the bass line. Listening through the song, scenes of rides on buses or trains, pensively looking out of windows all spring to mind. Moments of serenity in between those of cacophony.

Expect Eddie Green and in turn, So Slow to be released on Smallville, July 26th.

PREMIERE: Edward - So Slow [Smallville]

Cowper’s low, slow, dark and experimental beats go deep into hypnotic psychedelia weaving together a woozy trip of ambient, new beat, EBM and trance. 

With a soundscape as eclectic as it is bass-heavy, it’s no wonder Cowper comes from the counter-cultural hub of Bristol, the UK city known for stretching the limits of sound, where he runs the Between Stations party and a monthly show on Noods Radio.
