Soma is the herb of the gods. A mythical substance spoken about in the Hindu holy book, the Ayurveda. We will never know what Soma was. As that information (like Greek Fire and the location of Troy) is completely lost to time.
I imagine, based on the text surrounding Soma that the drug is profound, euphoric, world shattering, and life changing.
This playlist represents those feelings to me and has found its place as both the songs I listen to while I sleep, as well as the playlist I listen to every weekend when I take mushrooms and dance through the night.
The central themes of my trips are grief, connections to ancestors, overcoming obstacles in life, feeling a sense of religion as an areligious person and interpretive dancing.
Common hallucinations include; feelings of flying, going through portals, having my soul sucked out of my body, recalling what seem like ancestral memories, the feeling of dancing with a tribe around a fire, and many more.
I usually take an unknown and extremely large dosage, please do not do this, for most people this will cause psychosis.
Track 1: to calm the mind and meditate.
Track 2: Continued meditation
Track 3: The come-up, by the end of this song, I'm usually rocking side to side, seated where I meditate.
Track 4: I begin to peak. I lay down. My conscience dissolves, I cry, grieving the loss of something integral to my existence. My soul is sucked from my body as my chest rises from the bed. I drift through dimensions both weeping and laughing hysterically at how profound the vision is. Tunnels of light cascading into darkness. As the song ends, I feel as though I've been guided through an ordeal and woken up a better man.
Track 5: This song is here to cradle me after the previous experience. A sort of intermission to calm the mind and bring my ego back into alignment for a brief relaxing respite. While this song plays, I still feel like a memory but unlike the previous song I don't feel a sense of sorrow or terror. More so I have the notion of "everything is good".
Track 6: Still laying down, as the song builds, I can feel a burst of euphoria. I sit up and draw my soft fleece blanket over my head and body and begin dancing in place while seated. When the tune begins, I'm humming along to it. My skin feels like electricity. In this song there's a repeated sound that to me sounds like a steel cable being wound tighter and tighter. The tension grows, feeling tighter and tighter, gripping my soul. In my dazed trance, my eyes still tearing, I feel the need to lay back down.
Track 7: Another pseudo-spiritual experience. This one more comforting and far less profound than the last.
Track 8: I feel the need to stand. My body moving to the beat. Moving to the center of the floor and giggling hard, I begin to dance, all 225lbs of my barrel-chested body releasing, pushing, and pulling the very fabric of time and space before me. I can feel the Earth around me calling out. I weep with madness, but I can't stop moving my arms and legs to the sound as she calls to my soul and brings it to the precipice. Edging my very being. This feeling is equally euphoric and maddening.
Track 9: Gravity sets in, I can feel the floor drawing me in like water attempting to collect itself being breaking down. The rattling drums feel as though they're peeling back the jacket of those steel cables wound so tight.
Track 9, Second Stanza: Another intermission for the remainder of the song. I chance for my mind and body to relax for a moment.
Track 10: With the thump of the bass, I feel pressured to stand again and begin dancing. Giggling hard and rocking my body back and forth around the room I begin to hear the sound of the threads of steel breaking off from my tightly wound cable which draws me deeper into the trip. I get the feeling that my mind and who I am is dissolving...
