Brother Joseph's Sonic Treasure Show 2/6/24

The hypermarket exhibited bioengineering brilliance and cosmic craftsmanship housed under a huge crystal dome shimmering with reflections of nearby celestial bodies. This retail colossus was not just a place to shop, but a living and breathing ecosystem where even food and drink possessed intelligence and personality, turning the everyday grocery shopping trip into an adventure.

Having walked through the automated portals, visitors immediately entered a vibrant, bustling atmosphere filled with mixed aromas of diverse culinary produce, each hinting at exotic and extraordinary flavours. Pieces of cheese joked about fermentation processes and their origins. Soda cans sizzled playfully, discussing the intricacies of soft drinks and the secrets of mixology. Loaves of bread argued about baking temperatures and yeast culture. Juice packets from every fruit and vegetable imaginable told tales of distant gardens and farms, and wine bottles told stories of ancient vineyards and legendary harvests.

As Spacelunch reached for his favourite Cinerian mead, a familiar voice sounded behind him:
– Have I lived long enough to see the day when the curly-headed man who broke my nose showed up again?

The professor turned around and was surprised to see an old friend in front of him.

– Nomad? Is it really you?! What brings you here?
– As always a thirst for adventure and a desire to solve mysteries. I've heard a lot about this place and just couldn't miss the chance to see it with my own eyes. On top of that, I followed the rumours that say the key to absolute life force is hidden here.
– Absolute life force? – Spacelunch asked with obvious interest, raising an eyebrow. – Are you hunting for legendary artefacts again?
– It's an elixir created by ancient gastronomes. It provides unprecedented energy and longevity. It is said to be guarded by a powerful force. By the way, – Nomad squinted, – your bioengineering knowledge could speed up the search considerably. And remember, you owe me one.
– Not that I'm very eager, but Spacelunch always pays debts back!

Hendrik Vogel *1982 is a Karlsruhe based scenographer, musician and media artist. In his audiovisual and spatial works, he explores the medium for its narrative qualities by emphasizing the profound influence of the creative process. The latest works are an invitation to reflect on our historical and sociological connections with media and the evolving relationship between society and technology. In his self released album (Sunday,2022) he scores the swiping mood mode (probably during Cv-19), by setting different moods from “ghostings” to “scrolling”,  ending with “you reached doom” which is a reminisence to the behavior of doomscrolling. His audiobook „Das schwarze Rechteck“ (2022) is a text-collage from the German romantic till today. An audio piece about overtaxing, the meaning of the fragment today and the origin of the rabbithole. „Postoned“ released on ENBEEZEE Records explores the act of daydreaming. With „The sound is the message“ (UNESCO City of Media Arts, 2022) he created a room installation in which the evolution of the sounds for communication and its amount today is discussed. And with “Entr’acte” he just published a composition for the silent movie bei René Clair from 1924. This summer „Screentime“ a brand new collaborative work with media artist Kilian Kretschmer which thematises self-reflection through digital media and ask how digital technologies influence our self-image. The video in collaboration with the Ballett of the Staatstheater will be part of the UNESCO City of Media Arts exhibition “Media art is here” from 15.08. till 15.09.2024. Hendrik studied scenography and media art at the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) in Karlsruhe, worked as a research assistant for architecture at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and as a workshop lecturer for sound at the ZKM. From 2013 - 2018 he was responsible for the club management and booking of the Fettschmelze together with Jago DJ and laid the basis of many beautiful days and nights which were very inspiring and a great enrichment of the regional scene. He is still hosting Holidays on Mars a monthly radioshow via Querfunk Karlsruhe. We are happy to welcome him.
