I love COVID. Made us stop herding a-hundred-twenty dudes in one room like bovids. 
One-hundred-twenty roommates. Imagine your mind state if you had to stay in that place.
We ain’t talking The Cool. We're talking the ones you call fools.
The mental ills, the Dr Phils, the ones on pills, the can’t walk up hills, how’s that feel?
There’s no code of ethics, when you don’t have a pay check.
Your socks? Stolen. Your rocks? Rollin. If you have a pet fox it's probably implodin.
This the hard knocks. 	More crime here than on the baddest block.
If your jobs fucked, your bills bucked, I hope you’re ready to get clocked.
Yet somehow the shelters are always overfilled and Built to Spill.
So I guess you’re still better off in the pseudo cell sitting on the window sill
with the cats who don’t know how to spell.     
Or maybe they tripped, cracked their heads and forgot, well.
I guess I can’t remember. We were just 200 cats and three staff in the blender.

As a kid I lost all my legos, when my mom left them at the DV shelter.
I thought that was hell, I guess I never checked the weather.
That’s what privilege looks like. You a single adult, Seattle will chew you up,
spit you out, spit in your mouth and kick you down south.
You roll through, it’s like a telephone booth, filled with opioids and sewer stew.
What would you do if that was you?
We got the Syndrome, and Obama phones, and maybe someday we’ll live in a mobile home,
with a whole single bed, and we’ll go get a coffee without being handed decaf instead.
 
I got AMR’s number tattooed under my eyelids, I aint talking 911, 4 score and seven digits.
I fidget more than JID did, not impressed? Good, I’m perpetually stressed.
On the west, not the best, but we’re getting better. Just wish my head would fucking simmer
down for summer, so I could go to Alki. I still might, but my mind’s forever fried.
You wanna know trauma? It’s helping the traumatized for 13 bucks an hour all night.
Walk in at midnight, leave at sunlight. I might walk home to save a buck on bus fare tonight.
And when I get home to low income housing, all I can do is count my blessings,
eat a tv dinner, go to bed, fight insomnia so I can get up and do it again.
That’s assuming I could remember it right. 
We were just 200 cats and 3 rats in fight or flight.
