He readjusted his glasses so he could narrow his eyes and survey the class room slowly. The students cowered or looked away as his gaze passed them; nobody had the answer to his question. This was a regular occurrence: but whether it was down to the student's lack of knowledge or the fear of answering before this daunting figure was yet to be determined. 

Brooklyn-based DJ, producer and violinist Beartrax welcomes Spanish producer Univac to his Melodize imprint for the first label outing of 2021. Having previously released records for Bunker, 30D and, more recently, David Vunk's Moustache Records, he makes his debut on Melodize with 'Polar': two powerful, icy electro cuts written on Univac's Moog Rogue, backed up by two stellar remixes from Extrawelt and John Tejada.

This has always created controversy and conspiracy as a covert space for experimenting on extraterrestrial aliens. We can only imagine the horrors of human endeavor to probe the inner bodies as a means of developing advanced interstellar technology. Albeit, driven by fear and paranoia as a means of conquering outer space the alien species remain a puzzle, but they are here among us have no doubt!

A visceral affair, the A2 invokes the fleshy body horror Cronenberg without breaking stride. Young’uns take note: this is a masterclass of retrograde futurism. A high NRG macro trip ‘Sweet Chainsaw’ is the coronary artery of the bustling cityscape capturing the pulsating romance of the underground: a frenzied maze of industrial estates, a reclamation of the forgotten spaces, and above a call to arms - let’s be having ye.

This is a feeling which DJ Frankie continues to thread on the flipside, in equal measure sexy and sentimental, balancing the serious futurism of US electro with the nostalgic optimism of UK hardcore. Re-historicising seemingly disparate strands of electronic music into something of ‘Ravers Guide’ - The Future Sound of the Past.

Fleck E.S.C. returns to Woodwork with a 4-track perpetration of spectacular dark electro bleeding the expected precarious charm, swagger, mystery, and menace. 'Walking Free' chronicles a twisted engagement of nefarious themes masked behind infectious funk and a pervading air of trepidation.

Opening with a psychotic grin, 'B-Love' sets up a dank backdrop of brick and bloodstains, bearing its sharpened teeth and flashing its sonic switchblades, setting a most comfortable mood of panic and constriction.

Easing the pressure slightly wih a malevolent smile, 'Walking Free' blends the best of Fleck's relentless break styles and quirky effects manipulations, fully-loaded with inescapable synth hooks that casually seize and strangle with delicate aggression.

'New Schedule' creeps up from behind, breathing heavy and rubbing itself on thick with stark precision bass hits and minimal chunky beats. From the outset, perpetual tension rises, occasionally releasing its grasp to toy with the victim in a tight, murderous groove.

The EP wraps with 'Unmatched Decay', a disorienting movement that crafts psychogenic disturbances through electro-shock seizures. Infectious low end sludge bounces through it's shattering sonic space, subtly closing in as the bars clang shut.
