As well as sharing with you the live recordings from our SPEED events, we have also created the SPEED Mix Series. This artist Invitation series will run irregularly throughout the year, with sporadic mixtapes from artists who we love and feel live and breathe the SPEED ethos and ideals. 

First up in this series, we have Bruno Wolfe. 

Bruno Wolfe is a Paraguayan artist, and is the founder of Cyberpunk Party, De_Konstrukt and the co-founder of U-Topic Productions. Active within his local scene since 2016, Bruno creates intense, emotional and aggressive dance music that can be heard and felt both within his own productions and his dynamic and transcendent DJ sets. 

With influences that break into alternative and urban culture like Punk, and Hip Hop, Bruno Wolfe’s sound and style can be described as eclectic, exciting, and highly enjoyable, mixing Techno, Trance, Rave, ghetto, EBM with all the musical oddities you can imagine.

Spiderdog is a DJ and artist based somewhere between Eora and Naarm. Known for
bringing increasingly relentless sounds to parties like Hex Yellow, Control, INSTASIS, 4D Festival and various renegade raves. As well as his notoriety on the dance floors, Spiderdog is also the head of MEGANESIA, a radio progromme and upcoming label, with a focus of supporting local and queer afrtists in both performance and curation.

@hex-tape  is an artist based on Arrernte country, central "Australia". They mostly DJ at raves where no one begrudges their shitty beat-matching and their attempt to make gabber\Aussie drill blends a "thing" - In our opinion, it's coming along nicely though.

The 17th release of katharsis is the EP “Digital Séance” by Australian artist Sugar Ross. The album was created in the period of harsh lockdown due to the pandemic situation in Australia, which influenced the artist in various directions both in terms of the methodological and the thematic approach to composing, resulting in a unique style of experimental ambient music. Comprising of six tracks, the release is framed by the conceptual approach of exclusively consisting of heavily manipulated samples recorded directly from digital and analogue radio. 

This conceptual approach of repurposing audio material from radio signals speaks directly into the theme of cyclicality in all life, matter and existence, described in Buddhism as Samsara. Simultaneously, the methodology was inspired by the parapsychological concept of the electronic voice phenomenon, which is the idea that electronic sound recordings of noise and static can be used as a method of identifying supernatural entities. Finally, the artist was living in an area of hard rubbish collection during this harsh lockdown, which gave further inspirations from waste culture and the idea of recycling.

SPEED coming back at you with the next of our artist invite Mix series, this time with this warped trudge through the undergrowth of SPEED, by Horse Macgyver. 

Horse Macgyver is the nonsense moniker of naarm based media artist, sound designer and musician Timothy Dwyer. 

With beginnings linked to both Canberra’s Divergent house party culture, as well as the blurred microgenre of ‘Witch House’, Dwyers decade-long evolution as a musician has navigated beyond both trend and genre, while also being a constant light speed processing of them. 

While an unhinged Menace hovers at the edge of their media works and composition, there is an articulate, emotive and ultimately playful core powering the twisted rhythmic figures and melodies found inside of Horse Macgyver.

Welcome back to a new instalment to the SPEED Mix series. We’ve been quiet for a few weeks but are coming back with a bang with this incredible mix by the increasingly talented Naarm DJ and Producer Sam Alfred. 

Moving up from Lutruwita to Naarm, Sam Alfred has swiftly carved a space for himself in the local scene. He’s one of Naarm’s  newest and most exciting DJs, known for mixing jazz-tipped house with deep cuts & UK garage. With a signature house and techno sound that is reminiscent of the 90s, Sam has made a name for himself all across the scene. Sam has released  music on labels such as Love Above Records, Phenomena Records, Spinning Around and Happy Wax records. 

It’s hard not to fight the urge as your body takes over, moving and dancing uncontrollably when Sam takes the stage and dishes out the finest cuts and rare selections that are sure to get your heart racing.

Naarm based DJ Eva has been making significant strides in the local dance scene, starting the year with an iconic set at Beyond The Valley Festival and features on local projects The Sound Gallery and Area3000 Radio. 
 In just two years since launching her DJ career, Eva has crafted a distinct sound that commands attention. Headlining shows across the state and supporting acclaimed artists such as Sally C, Mella Dee, Partiboi 69 and Nina Las Vegas. 
Whether it's a day party or a late-night affair, Eva captivates audiences with high energy drum-driven sets infused with powerful female vocals and bouncy 90's beats. From house and techno to baile funk and speed garage her ability to blend and drift through genres is impressive, but it is her ear for percussion and nu-wave nuances that underpin her sound.
