In the 90's this song was fun. Latin music is fun. Busta Rhymes used to be fun. He's serious now but I still think his stuff is pretty special. This was fun to make. In conjunction with Wilco's 20th anniversary comes Alpha Mike Foxtrot, a four-disc box set of rare studio and live recordings collected from the band’s extensive audio archives. "Blasting Fonda" was written by Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy in 1996 for the soundtrack to the movie Feeling Minnesota, the song, as Tweedy recalls in the liner notes, “was probably the first time it was just [mulit-instrumentalist] Jay [Bennett] and me in the studio—which ended up happening a lot—just basically kind of seeing if we could make some sort of song happen with just the two of us.”

Tom Waits (on Jim Wilson): "Wilson, he's always playing with time. I heard a recording recently of crickets slowed way down. It sounds like a choir, it sounds like angel music. Something sparkling, celestial with full harmony and bass parts - you wouldn't believe it. It's like a sweeping chorus of heaven, and it's just slowed down, they didn't manipulate the tape at all. So I think when Wilson slows people down, it gives you a chance to watch them moving through space. And there's something to be said for slowing down the world."
