After releasing a string of driving, dancefloor-oriented singles on European labels Rush Hour and Hotflush, Brooklyn’s own Praveen Sharma aka Braille is keying up to release his debut LP, Mute Swan, on Friends of Friends this Spring. With an ear for sentimental melodies and an unprecedented step into the vocal arena, Braille’s first full-length is rife with narrative appeal and rich songwriting, collapsing dozens of genre signifiers into a cauldron of pathos. Sharma’s own vocal experiments are aided by Jessie Boykins III on “I Assume” and Angelica Bess on “Ports” and “Better Than Nothing”, as well as additional production from Throwing Snow and Seafloor, a symphony of voices feeding into the cohesive vision he has established, one as much influenced by internal struggle as it is by his current environ in Brooklyn. The Seafloor-assisted “The Cat’s Gone Nuts” epitomizes the aforementioned spirit, drawing on classic soul as well as hip hop, R&B and UK garage. Cerebrally affecting, Braille’s compositions take the listener on a walk through the artist’s past and present, a collage of emotions ranging from melancholic joy to the deepest of sorrows. Did not end up how I expected, which is part of the joy of this. Into double digits for tracks now, and almost double digits for run time. Maybe one day I'll write a sub-five minute long song again.

All I Know

For my past self,

This is for us. I wrote this for all our childhood dreams and imaginary places we would venture off to. This is the soundtrack to our life. We made it this far in life and here we are…all grown up.

When I Grow Up

Spheriá was a German ambient music and sound design project, founded in late December 2013. It started off as an alias for exploring different styles of music production. Part of the soundscapes were combined with recorded instruments, voices and sounds from different environments.

During 2014 and the upcoming years, Spheriá published several recordings and also performed at small live sessions with other musicians. A first hiatus took place in 2015. The project resumed in late 2016 and continued at first. After another break had occured in 2024, the project permanently concluded in late March 2025.

Other projects that Spheriá was active with were "Háiku" and "Natura Silentia", with the latter focusing more on fictional places in nature, combined with writing from imagination.
