44 minutes and 25 seconds of 10th-generation genre-re-wiring, exploring bass music through an open-minded lens, regardless of tempo, or even beat-structure… this sound clash aims straight for your body, with the intent to melt you down into a fidgeting, wobbling mess of enthusiasm and delight. In addition to some of my favorite old records and samples, this mix features several brand new bassnectar tracks, heaps of exclusive edits, re-edits, and re-re-re-edits. Lot’s of re. Lot’s of mix. Lot’s of edits. We tore our favorite drum &amp; bass to shreds, injected hip hop with some pogo-stick bass, amped up the tempo of dubstep, freaked out the gypsies, gave a nod to the dreamy 80’s and ended up similar to where we started off: omni-tempo maximalism strikes again.

Derrick May is one of our main headliners at Rejected's Amsterdam Dance Event 2012 night at Studio 80, 18th of october.
Since my early dj days, I consider Derrick May as a huge inspiration, and in particular this dj set. Broadcasted live in 1996 from the legendary Chemistry night at Escape, Amsterdam. It was recorded from midnight radio by my partner in crime Edwin Oosterwal who borrowed me the cassette tape which I never gave back to him, which reminds me I should do that sometime soon.

In this mix, Derrick May shows us that in 1996 dance wasn't pigeonholed to one style or sound. He mixes Moodymann's groovy deephouse with Jeff Mills and Surgeon's raw techno. He goes from Donna Summer's disco to Tyree Cooper's jacking electronic funk, from Masters of Work's new york house to Ian Pooley's epic chord techno. All of this is mixed in a fast and skillful pace, a style that so clearly carries Derrick's signature.

There's some truly magical moments in this mix, how he get's out of Surgeon's 'Syllable' into Global Communication's 'Sensorama' at 1:09 leaves me speechless..

Even though by now I know most of the record he plays here, there's still a few I've been looking since the very first time I heard this mix. Would be great to get the tracklist completed, any help is greatly appreciated!

What you can hear on this work is Based On True Stories. One of them... Somewhere in the studio of the guys there is a rotary fader under which is written the word 'pressure'. The two of them cranked it up so much, it just broke off. The result? Outrageously fat offbeat grooves, going straight through the listener like a mighty electric discharge.

Continuing their go-getting style, Fabio and Moon fire sleek rhythms and their typical club samples all over the stereo panorama. Sometimes they add playful vocals, sometimes film music, and sometimes it is just super smooth, melodic elegance. When it comes to contemporary Progressive Trance, there is one particular expression frequently to be heard from DJs and party goers all around the world: Spin Twist sound. Obviously a music label of the same name succeeded in doing something only few others managed to do: Bursting the bonds of imitation, developing its very own character, and gaining international approval for doing so. Spin Twist Records has long become a leading protagonist of the genre- both for Progressive Trance lovers and the artists it represents.


The character of Spin Twist is strongly shaped by the character of its founder, Hannes Klitta. Being an avid music lover since his early childhood, he soon realizes that making music is more than merely a hobby. It is his main purpose in life.
