As 2021 fades into 2022, we decided to offer you another mix in our GUESTMIX series precisely on NYE. This couldn't get any more special than it is with today's piece: we're honored and privileged to host a devastating mix by the 18 yo trans woman (transpinay) and militant artist-activist Teya Logos (she/her/siya) from Quezon City, Philippines, one of the loudest voices in the contemporary underground club. Representing the queer community and being a voice particularly for the transfemme youth, she's the chairwoman of the international collective CXD focused on the discussion and spreading of radical ideas and music.

Melting hardcore techno, footwork, and harsh noise influences with her abrasive, on-top-of-the-lungs screams, the proud Filipina Teya is a true force of nature who's been hitting the scene with deafening bangers for at least three years now. Just to name a few things you should check immediately: the feature with the Nairobi experimental artist Slikback within the mammoth collaborative release Melt; the remix on Miss Jay's Nocturnal EP on Unizone, the cutting-edge Prague-based collective which also published Teya's instant-classic Beki Bounce; the iconic, anti-imperialist FUCK THE WEST masterpiece on the fifth installment of the MUTANTS compilation series, which got inexplicably removed from Soundcloud for incitement to hatred; and finally, her latest outing on SZNS7N (the same UK label that, among other amazing releases, also hosted Nara's Ipse Dixit EP) with possibly the best title track ever.

Take your time to dive into the ear-piercing, cataclysmic selection of clean-cut rage, rusty violence, and blind courage. This is precisely the voice of change.

3hd and EBM(T) collaboration インフラ INFRA release DJ Paypal's soundtrack "[SOI] Re-Animation" from the audio-visual piece by anime lovers DJ Paypal and Makoto Taniguchi. Crossing cultural and linguistic boundaries the commission was originally performed at Yamamoto Gendai Gallery in Tokyo in 2017.

Based in Berlin and Tokyo, the respective artist and producer were riffing on anime culture with their own life-size character, created by Taniguchi, and accompanied by a soundtrack composed by DJ Paypal. The film and live performance have crossed cultural and linguistic boundaries through sound and animation, offering an insight into music as a universal activity. 

Taniguchi’s work is based on the imagery of Japanese animation tropes, appearing as heartthrobs and idols. Passed down to the artist since his youth in the 80s, the characters are acknowledged as a common, general occurrence within contemporary Japanese society. 

DJ Paypal is one of disco, funk, juke and footwork’s most elusive artists. The Berlin-based producer is affiliated with Chicago’s Teklife crew, Glasgow underground leaders LuckyMe, and most recently, Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint, has built a family through online footwork forums, SoulSeek mining, and countless tracks shared across the globe. He’s been spinning footwork in novel directions ever since, highlighting the genre’s undervalued sense of playfulness in the process.
