Monody is a solo producer and musician born in Bristol, UK, now living in Utrecht, NL. After years of touring, collaborating on multiple projects and running a DIY label, they took a 5 year hiatus from music to reconnect with their passion and creativity. The debut album ‘Blue’ under new project Monody is the result.  

Hailing from Bristol, they pull on a strong musical heritage; a dark downtempo, trip-hop core with minimalist electronic and post punk influences. The result of this unique mix is a thick brooding sound, with strong rhythms, raw lyrics and a captivating powerful vocal delivery anchoring it all

Tessa Pollitt Biography

Tessa Pollitt, a musical veteran whose career started back in late 70’s England,
Tessa came to prominence as the Bass player with the now legendary female Punk/Reggae band The Slits. Their music totally smashed the limitations of the Punk scene from which they were spawned.  The band quickly gained the attention of BBC DJ John Peel which gained them a famous ‘peel session’ on BBC radio, this alerted many major record companies interest in signing them and after turning down many Record deals they record and released their début L.P ‘Cut’ on Island Records (1979), they shared their label with such reggae legends as Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Toots and the Maytals and many more. 'Cut' was produced by Dub Reggae musician Dennis 'Blackbeard' Bovell, (Jah Sufferer Soundsystem / Matumbi) Fusing Punk, Dub reggae, and world music, Cut was followed by ‘Return of the Giant Slits’ on CBS, (1981). The Slits last album ‘Trapped Animal’ (2009) was produced by ONU Sounds Dub Guru, Adrian Sherwood. This modern line up also featured Hollie Cook on vocals and keys (daughter of Sex Pistol Paul Cook) who recently released her self-titled debut album produced by Prince Fatty. Over the years The Slits shared stages and tours with bands as diverse as The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Creation Rebel, Steel Pulse, Sonic Youth and jazz legend Don Cherry (to name a few). 

October 2010 lead singer of the Slits and step daughter of John Lydon, Ari Up, sadly passed away. There was much sadness in the global music community,  Tessa along with Viso<>Nero and Inner City Grit Records decided to stage the UK’s only official  tribute to Ari up, which featured  an all-star cast of Ari Up’s friends, family and fans, including DJ sets and performances from Tessa, Adrian Sherwood, Mark Stewart, Nora Forster (Ari’s mum)  and many more.

After attending such historical soundsystems as Jah Shaka, Channel 1, Stereograph and Aba Shanti, reggae, roots and soundsystem had a massive influence on Tessa’s playing, music, career and life and has given her the taste and knowledge of true old school dub, Roots, Reggae and Jamaican soundsystem culture.
Tessa will be digging the crates to select and rewind classic versions and rarities, drawn from her own life and expertise with this music.

This will be a true sound clash between old and new, London & Bristol, Dub Reggae & Dubstep, representing musical unity and solidarity spanning generations.

Spirez Bio October 2012

Spirez is a loose collective of producers and musicians from the Stokes Croft area of Bristol. The sound is a pastiche of ambient, down-tempo, dub, bass culture and trip hop, fused with rich and seductive vocals, slowly half-baked in vast radiant atmospheres that wash over your ears.
Gluing the project and all its creative ideas are a collective of producers, who collaborate and work along with various instrumentalists and vocalists in a studio environment. A relaxed and peaceful pace sets the creative scene; nothing is to be rushed, taking time to mature with everything in its right place, developing organically.
