“4 years ago I went to Mayan Warrior, Tulum to dance & explore. I remember the excitement on the dance floor, the respect for the music, the art, the lights & the attention to every little details. I was fully inspired.

This year I wanted to do the same. I’d just finished two long weeks of touring and wanted to have a good dance with friends.
Everything fell into place when the Mayan crew reached out and told me there was an open slot for me to play. I so excited and jumped right in. It's the kind of event where you don't need to think about what to play, you just feel it.

I didn't plan on releasing the set but, as we celebrate life in the dance floor like we always do, it felt right to share it.”

The DifferentSound Podcast #274 welcomes DJ Hyperactive! Chicago born and bred DJ/Producer Joseph Manumaleuna aka DJ Hyperactive needs little introduce to those versed in the history of techno.  As one of Daft Punk’s “Teachers” and “brother of the humble” according to Resident Adviser, his contributions to the underground continue to span generations.  Honing his skills in the highly influential scene and sound of Chicago in the early 90s, DJ Hyperactive gained instant international recognition and has since gone on to play the most legendary and lauded events and venues over the last 20 years, such as Orbit/ Leeds, Liquid Room/ Tokyo, Love Parade/ Berlin, Shelter & Smart Bar/ Chicago, Interface/ Los Angeles, Movement/ Detroit, Basement & Output/ Brooklyn, Tresor & Berghain/ Berlin and the list doesn’t stop there.  Also, over the course of his career, he has produced over 100 remixes and original tracks, including classics such as ‘Venus’ & ‘Wide Open’/ Missile, ‘25HRs’/ Droid, “Music Box”/ 4Trk, “Reptilian Tank” & “Chicago”/Contact, Drop Bass, Communique, Hybrid, Truncate, Figure, Plus 8, CLR, Blank Code, Impact Mechanics, Illegal Alien, to name a few.  DJ Hyperactive returned to Chicago 2013 to reconnect with his family and musical roots. SURPRISE! I’ve been going through so much TECHNO music for the second night of STAX with Chris Liebing this Saturday in Brooklyn that I thought it would be appropriate to share a set of mine from where it all began… DETROIT!

As you all may already know, I rarely release sets from the past but today I’m sharing my Movement set from 2016. This was such a special gig for me for so many reasons. I was asked last minute to fill in the headline slot for Richie Hawtin and it became a set that I’ll never forget. If you were there, you would know how much fun this one was.
