On march 17th 2015 in Wuhan, China, our stage manager Charles landed 400km from the venue « The Vox Live House » because of bad weather with all our gear. What did it mean? It meant no computer, no ear monitors, no pedals, no tuner, no electronic ARM (BRAAH), no Tenori-on, no nothing.
We decided that cancelling the show was not an option, so we went into commando mode and put together a semi-acoustic set just 2 hours before the concert with what the venue provided us.
Here are seven songs I selected from the concert and what they sounded like.

« Petit update du concert le plus épique de ma vie (avec le premier à NY en 2007 – où mon groupe était reste bloqué à Paris et j’avais du improviser pour la première fois un set toute seule sur scène ).
Charles et tout notre équipement qui devaient arriver hier après-midi à Wuhan ont finalement atterri à 400 km pour raisons météo. Donc pas de Charles, pas de matos.
Votre chère et dévouée et son équipe de choc s’est donc mise en mode guerrière pour une opération commando à Wuhan. Nous avons mis en place un set semi-acoustique d’une efficacité redoutable (pour un set semi-acoustique) dans ce club de punks dont la vibe est aussi géniale le soir que pourrie la journée.
Ni l’absence de Charles, ni celle de notre matériel, ni la loge-petit-couloir-sans-lumière-ni-miroir-ni-eau-mais-pleine-de-stickers-aux-murs, ni l’odeur de fosse sceptique qui a été notre compagne tout au long de cette journée bénie du 17 mars 2015, ni les décharges électriques que me délivrait mon micro de temps à autre pour me rappeler à l’ordre n’ont réussi à nous déstabiliser. J’avais trouvé une flûte traditionnelle la veille, j’ai donc appris à en jouer, nous avons mis en place 10 nouvelles versions des morceaux, tout cela 2h avant le concert.
Après avoir défini une setlist en 5 minutes il était temps de se préparer. Beaucoup de monde était déjà là et l’ambiance devenait intéressante.
Je suis montée sur scène seule pour leur jouer le premier morceau du set, To The Dancers In the Rain version piano/voix.
Et là, quand j’ai vu leurs grands sourires, quand j’ai senti leur chaleur, leur enthousiasme, quand j’ai remarqué ce pétillement dans leurs yeux (et dans leurs téléphones portables) rivés sur moi et surtout quand j’ai ressenti leur présence intense, leur véritable écoute, alors plus rien d’autre n’avait d’importance. Ni le matériel manquant, ni l’odeur persistante. À ce moment Christel, Amélie, Delphine, il n’y avait plus de chinois, il n’y avait plus de français, il n’y avait plus que l’essentiel.
Au 2eme morceau, les garçons sont rentrés sur scène pour une version atmosphérique de Dreamland, Des larmes s’est mexicanisé et quand j’ai sorti la flûte traditionnelle (un 葫芦丝, prononcer « hu lu si » ) la salle entière s’est émerveillée et j’ai senti qu’ils étaient réellement touchés.
S’en est suivi tout un set plus humain que jamais. Finalement c’est pas si terrible de se retrouver nue face à un public inconnu quand on se sent comprise et acceptée.
Nicolas, Mathieu et Vincent ont assuré comme des guerriers impeccables, dans le calme et la bonne humeur, et la plus grande inspiration.
Et quel fut notre bonheur de voir enfin arriver Charles en fin de soirée et de partager nos récits de cette journée surréaliste et inoubliable.
Bref ne nous refaites plus jamais ça.
