“React” is Split Secs’ first record of 2015 and the year’s first release from the LA duo’s Machine Limited imprint. Composed of Alexandre Mouracade a.k.a SONNS and Travis Kirschbaum (TK DISKO), Split Secs has put out material on labels such as Throne Of Blood, Kompakt, and Jolly Jams. They’ve also crafted remixes for Mark E's Merc label, BPitch Control, Remain, Waze & Odyssey, Future Classic, Pacific Horizons, Clouded Vision, On The Prowl.. etc.

“React” further confirms Split Secs’ capabilities in creating all things tough & funky. As usual, Alex and Travis walk a fine line towards the light, but veer dangerously and deliciously into thee dark. The original mix of “React” is deep house in the classic sense of the genre; a pulsing bassline, which Marshall Jefferson would be proud of, conspires with rolling drums, drifting atmospherics, a chant repeatedly intoning “react” and an ominous, but extremely sexy, spoken, Italian vocal courtesy of Alona — the sometime chanteuse for 40 Thieves, who carried out vocal duties on Machine Limited’s first release, “Slave,” also by Split Secs.

The package comes with three remixes, two by Indonesian producer Jonathan Kusuma, whose “Gong 3000” EP appeared on Cosmo Vitelli’s I’m A Cliché label in 2014, and the other by Hardway Bros, aka Sean Johnston, Weatherall’s co-pilot in A Love From Outer Space. Kusuma’s first mix is a driving house track with a definite late ‘80s warehouse feel that brings early Tommy Musto to mind. The bassline is chunky and surrounded by intricate and highly danceable drum patterns that wheel and swerve under the vocals. The track builds aggressively with haunting strings and syndrum hits. It’s perfect for peak time play. His second offering is a looser, deeper and more narcotic effort. It’s no less driving than his first mix, but strays into darker territory with an acid-tinged bassline, rolling toms, plenty of delay on the chant, stabs of electric keys and fantastic drum programming.

The Hardway Bros’ mix rounds out this release perfectly by toughening the original bass line even further, making the beat stomp hard and then throwing in some acid to create a swirling cauldron of phantasmagorical, phuturisic, phunk phantasticness. You’ve been given phair warning my phriends, “React” will garner what it asks for, a rousing reaction on the dance floors to which it is applied.

Man Power - "Stunt Cock"

Bristol based imprint FutureBoogie delivers rock solid nu-disco and house 12"s for already five years now. Their latest release to date by Lauer certainly didn't disappoint and they're now rolling into spring
with a heavyweight one from dastardly duo Ron & Neil Aka Ron Basejam and Neil Diablo, who between them bring years of musical chops and (most importantly) "the funk" to the table.
In its Original Mix, ‘Perdre Son Éclat’ is a breezy yet sturdy slice of atmospheric synth dance, resplendent with swirling riffs and stammering bass. A thunderous Roland CR-78 drum pattern keeps everything in check, and its sultry french vocals flitter between spoken word and harmonious refrains, lacing the track with a superb "new wave" feel.
Here premiered, a remix comes courtesy of Man Power, the musical enigma that traded on his anonymity for a couple of years before coming clean as the English DJ/producer Geoff Kirkwood. Having released on labels like Hivern, Throne Of Blood and Correspondant, Man Power takes "Perdre Son Éclat" into even deeper territories, crafting a moody and spacious version that respectfully stays close to the original mix. Out 26th of April !

Currently generating some serious heat and momentum amongst dance music aficionados, Man Power rocks up with a single for Futureboogie that further cements the reputation of this rising British producer/DJ.  The two original tracks are also backed with a remix from Ruf Dug.

Alongside his own very excellent Me Me Me label, Man Power has been delivering diversely epic releases for labels like ESP Institute, Optimo Trax, and Correspondant.

In its original form, “Barranquilla Trifle” features rave-lite stabs and deliciously sweeping pads over woody percussion and an omnipresent studry bassline.  A dash of acid darkness only energizes the mood, for what must surely be one of the best ‘sunrise moments’ tracks of the year!

Ruf Dug takes “Barranquilla” further on its trajectory towards summertime vibes; the sounds of the ocean sea gently breeze over the soca beat, as the Ruf Kutz main man adds splashes of percussive hits, huge M1 pads, and melodious keys to the party.

More 303 business coats “Kaon” from its opening bars, as Man Power delivers his second original track on the release.  An urgent breakbeat and wandering mega-bass soon evolve into thunderous beats and heady synth arpeggios, an almost post-punk funk atmosphere creeps into the bustling yet succinct ambience.

Disseminating impeccable groove through his first input on NAA, Japan's Que Sakamoto tears things up in a sumptuous fashion on NAA14. 'Uchuu Hikoushi' floats along the darker side of the Adriatic coastline with a bouncy plucked bass, shuffling drums and a mystical pad that becomes reminiscent of a wave softly hitting the shore. Apiento's remix brings the A to close with a minimalistic bare bones approach that takes us to another island. Broken-beat drums slither towards dusk, but the atmosphere remains with delicate bleeps and low-end sub vibrations. 'Kamakura' jets straight off into the horizon with some precise Miami Vice speedboat swagger. Polished Jazzy tones bend alongside tender Rhodes and guitar chords, adding the extra hydro-force to keep this track as chic as possible. Quickly picked up after some serious attention, Vyvyan's remix closes the EP with a venomous bass that is the clear driving force. Additional 303s cling to stems for that extra bit of squelch.

Taken from the 4 track vinyl EP on the excellent @notananimalrecords label Japanese producer @que-sakamoto Kamakura is a superb slice of funk heavy slo mo house. Smooth keys and robotic synths come together beautifully to create a chuggin dancefloor jam of the highest order.
