Kyle Hall’s ‘Cosmic Touch’ opens his EP of the same name with masterful machine drum funk. Anything he touches turns into interplanetary gold, proven by the hypnotic and detailed grooves present across the release and his output to date. In ‘Cosmic Touch’, hazy resonant synths playfully bounce off layers of infectious rhythm, entrancing the listener before ‘Cobalt’ rides in with galactic pads and rolling toms, a swirly acid-line unfolding slowly in the second half. Closing out this next entry on the Spanish Apnea imprint, ‘Phantom’ chugs along a mystifying, ghastly synth line while typewriter-like hats hammer onto its steady kickdrum, chirpy sequences carefully filling the spaces between. 

Detroit artist Kyle Hall blends classic motor city techno with house influences, his personal take on the genres characterised by a warm, soulful sound and intricate rhythmic patterns in turn drawing from jazz, funk, and hip-hop. His music has landed on labels like Hyperdub, his own Wild Oats & Forget The Clock, and now, he follows up his collaborative ‘Crown’ LP with Steven Julien on Apron Records with a three-tracker on Apnea, a label which recently returned to the fold with quality releases from the likes of Gerald Donald’s Gedankenexperiment and E.R.P.

The second vinyl release by young, interdisciplinary Dresden label fragmented: is called fragmented:borders (FRAG:002) and features three original productions by fragmented: resident RANDOM DATA accompanied by a remix from WARNING resident Mars Leder. It is composed of experimental breakbeats defined by dubby bass and eclectic drum patterns infused with oriental rhythmic elements, creating a sonically unique atmosphere. The remix by Mars Leder is a dreamy and playful house re-interpretation of the original, which skillfully opens up new perspectives on its various elements by embedding them in a refreshingly uplifting soundscape.

The cover artwork by Lydia Henkel deals with the haptics of memory. Traces of working in the ransacked material are emblematic of gestures of individuals who have to fight their way through water, authorities, everyday life, in order to find a foothold and to be allowed to arrive. The often invisible struggles of those who must fight for perception and treatment as individuals and not as the cause of problems are reflected in the vase and remembered silently and angrily.

A central part of this release is the cooperation with political association “Mission Lifeline'' which mainly focuses on sea rescue missions in the Mediterranean. By drawing attention to their work on the vinyl cover and inner sleeve print, fragmented: aims to provide a platform for this vital cause. To further support their efforts, 50% of the proceeds from this release will be donated to Mission Lifeline..

An avid producer, label head and digger, his sets move lovingly through his collection flirting with leftfield house, italo, trance, wave, downtempo and other cosmic obscurities. His production discography follows a similar story connecting the dots between his musical influences, leading him to release on the likes of Bordello A Parigi, Permanent Vacation and Palms Trax's CWPT.

Launched in 2023, he co-runs Magic Ritmo. An exploration of the weird and wonderful through lost reissues, compilations and future classics.

‘Magic (Is In The Tempo)’ is seven minutes of deep sonic bliss, combining sensual vocals from Canadian-born DJ/producer Jennifer Loveless, organic percussion and an elastic bassline that lifts the groove toward the stars. A sparser Midnight Mix brimming with Balearic late-night energy features dreamy blues guitar that ebbs and flows between the intricate pockets of space under cosmic synth details.

Burns & Tubbs - Where Were U In 92?

The new 12” series on Ballyhoo Records is dedicated to what label owner ‘Thee J Johanz’ describes as ‘Triptech Journeys’. The series takes the listener on a journey traversing old school house to mystical acid and everything in-between.

On volume 2, titled ‘Trancedenting Machines’, side a treats us to two tracks from Master Johanz. First, we have his track ‘Jack the Tripper, which utilizes the famous Dutch analog synth the “Synton Syrinx” and gives the track its swampy bubbling filter sounds and a massive intense hypnotizing drone sound in the background. This coupled with the steady grooving beat will take you to the moon and back. Next up is his track ‘Daylight Tripper’ which brings us a few steps into the daylight with its deep acidic sound that will keep you moving.

Flip it over to side b and we have upcoming talent ‘David Agrella’ from London who surpasses himself with his brilliant acidic track ‘Machinery.’ Finally, and definitely one to watch, is the incredible Swiss acid don, ‘DJ Emotion’ with an extract from one of his endless magical jams. Incredible stuff all round, you need this in your life and on your turntable!

Fervent defender of raw and authentic House Music, Harrington brings influences straight from Chicago and New York all emblematic places of Electronic music.  
His music is largely inspired by the pioneers of the movement, such as Frankie Knuckles, Kerri Chandler or Larry Heard.
Now turned towards production, it is with the same energy that he offers us a full groovy and authentic music that oscillates between House, Italo and Deep House.

Kazerne Records is an Amsterdam based DJ Duo with a unique expression of their house and disco oriented taste. They tend to find the intersection between euphoric gems and groovy jams, whilst prospering strategic selections. A subtile overflow from italo house to more progressive tunes - while blending it with hints of tribal and garage - is a good example of what one could expect. To inspire themselves, they adore falling back to a wide variety of styles, such as kwaito, UK street soul, MPB, or italo disco. 
 
For this mix we compiled a nice selection of some early disco, deeper grooves and soulful house. Enjoy ;)
