The purpose of this track is to try out Cirklon's extensive pattern randomization features. Many hardware sequencers let you play patterns in random order, but Cirklon goes way beyond that. 

There are two kinds of random melodies here. In the first kind, each step of the pattern includes upper and lower boundaries for note randomization as well as probability factors for gate, tie and velocity. The pad pattern plays an additional note that's relatively transposed a 5th up. All notes are forced to the dorian scale. 

The second kind is more pseudo-random, with some notes preferred over others. For the bass, I am running a selection of playable notes in random order on a silent helper track. The main 8-note pattern begins and ends with upper or lower root note (randomly picked). The six middle notes are grabbed from the helper track. Think of it as a biased sample&hold mechanism.

The drums have two options masked to Cirklon's control knobs, for live punch-in effects. The first knob controls the intensity, that is, the probability of playing all the pattern's ghost notes that are normally silent. The second knob controls the probability of randomizing any playing notes. When turned halfway, there's a 50% chance that the next note is picked randomly. Occasionally I'm turning a third knob that sets the repetition times for each note, resulting in a flam effect.

I'll never get tired of the dorian scale. (To try it out, use D as the root note and play only on white keys.) Any note you play fits together with everything. In fact, I'm suspecting that many IDM producers are using their own random note generators!
