A gentle and unfussy bootleg, done during lockdown, of one of my all-time guitar heroes and musical inspirations, Vini Reilly.

The Durutti Column were the very first and longest-serving signing on Factory Records, the legendary Manchester label which gave us Joy Division, New Order and the Hacienda. 

This ain't no dancefloor banger - it's a hopefully respectful homage to a beautiful peace of musical tenderness which I wanted to bring to a wider audience and play in my more organic sets. We were hoping to license it for Nick Warren's The Soundgarden, unfortunately having initially had some interest and excitement via his management, the trail with Vini went cold again. So 3 years later it's time to share it with you all as a free DL.

PBR Streetgang take a trip onboard the Trans Pennine Express for a follow up to their previous Sprechen outing and as you'd expect its a full throttle aural delightful dishing out of electronic music movers & grovers. With one foot in the Italo disco and the other in the dank & murky underbelly of Berlin squat raves this is indeed one that slaps hard.

Gamma Ray is a straight up chugger with a hypnotic stack of arps that you get lost in before some wonky style ear worms synth lines pop by to mess with your endorphins before its back to bubbling basics. Simplistic, trippy & banging in equal measures.

Delivery Man ramps it right up to peak time pinging action and its all kind of late night, body jacking brilliance. Rolling arps & bass line get you mind surfing along with a laser reaching style breakdown along the way. Again totally simple in its nature but its hefty as heck and will defo do the damage.

Space Cake is almost an amalgamation of the 2 previous tracks. Chuggy & thudding but also with some seriously tripped out synth lines that engulf you & totally wrap around your psyche and yes, it also has a mega hyped breakdown. Big indeed!

We roped in some of our finest to provide remixes for this jaunt. Sprechen head honcho Chris Massey takes on Gamma Ray and sprinkles some his Thief Of Time type dust into the equation to deliver an 80's-ALFOS-Synth heavy rework. Big banging mega human Gina Breeze remixes Delivery Man and turns in a twisted, tweaky & straight up banging late night/early morning houser that stomps & whallops at gale force #50.

This sounds like something Andrew Weatherall would have played. 

The bond between Sprechen & the Idaho based duo Causeway (Allison Rae & Marshall Watson) has been steadily building over recent time with various message & props to each other as well Allie providing outstanding vocals on The Thief Of Time release last year.

With previous releases on Italians Do It Better (one of our fave labels!) they are now front & centre on Sprechen with their latest single 'Dancing With Shadows', a pulsating piece of hefty synth style action which precedes their forthcoming long player.

The single is a sonic exploration of the duo's expansive musical palate which cites influences from contemporaries such as The Cure & New Order (and even John Hughes movies!) but with a presence that is 100% unique to Causeway. Stripped back instrumentation and stacked synths create a dreamlike soundscape where Allison's vocal becomes the guiding light and provider of additional emotion on this neon soaked journey.

Dancing With Shadows comes across like a main track from the sequel to Drive that we never got (though we live in hope!), cinematic, stunning and a real plentiful taster of what is to come on their album next year.

Remixes take the track into other dysfunctional disco realms with Marshall himself providing a pumped up club mix that cranks everything from the OG up to 11 on the 'chunk-o-meter'. Whilst Sprechen's very own Chris Massey goes in for the acid kill with his 303 tweaking A Love From Outer Space style mid set stomper. Speaking of A Love From Outer Space, Sean Johnston himself gives a deep, moody & more psychedelic affair to his rework that takes things subterranean. Whilst Kiaki takes things deeper into stripped back chug territory which is equal parts hypnotic & hooky with a stomping backdrop...big!

Launched by former Electric Elephant booker and manager Chris Massey as a side project alongside his A&R role at Paper Recordings, Sprechen is one of those labels that manage to keep the fire burning by supplying a retro-infused freshness-clad sonority for the intelligent dance floors out there. Nu, Neo, Modern Disco or even Indie Dance… call it however you please, that’s the focus of the “Madcunian” outlet and it simply can’t get enough of bringing to life one masterpiece after another. For its forthcoming parcel, Sprechen welcomes Allison Rae & Marshall Watson – or Causeway, when working together.

Formed during the terrible pandemic times, the American duo swiftly caught the attention of the sturdy Italians Do It Better and their first outing, “We Were Never Lost”, was selected to be part of the third installment of the IDIB compilation series “After Dark”. After a string of successful appearances on the Oregon/California-based imprint, Allison & Marshall decided to explore new realms and had some pieces published on Distrokid, Looq, and Lo Recordings. They now land on Sprechen with the magnificent Synthwave beauty “Dancing With Shadows” featuring also solid revisions by Chris Massey, Hardway Bros, Kiaki, and Mr. Watson himself "providing a pumped up club mix that cranks everything from the OG up to 11 on the 'chunk-o-meter'", premiered here, by the way.

“Dancing With Shadows” is just a taste of what to expect from Causeway’s 2025 full-length album – looking forward to it!

Landing with an almighty bass bin rumbling on Sprechen is another northern musical disciple from around our way. Kiaki has been a regular visitor to many a Sprechen and Sticky Heat social and defo knows his onions when it comes to rocking the discotheques. With previous releases on Me Me Me and the likes of Erol Alkan giving hi props its with a mega vibe that we welcome him to the label!

Northern Solar is a straight up, lost in the sweat & smoke kind of club track. Hypnotic and hooky with its relentless pulsating low end thud & rumbles accompanied by synth stabs and squelches a like. One for the mutant acid militia…

The 2nd helping comes in the form of ‘And Then Some’. Slower paced and stripped back allowing for a more infectious groove to take over. But still packing bags of electronic drama. Perfect ‘transition track’ for when you need to flip things up a notch (or 2). Kind of peaky but not too much, what we like to call at Sprechen as a ‘subtle banger’.
