this song was very interesting to make cos it taught me how to be way more intentional about each element in the track. like I feel very in control of this production and all its different parts at every point in the song. as a producer there’s no better feeling 💆‍♂️ it’s like when you’re riding a horse and all it takes is the smallest touch to make them stop on a dime, run full speed, jump over a river or fight enemy horses. idk i’ve never ridden a horse but I imagine that’s what it’s like.

I’ve loved playing this in nearly all my sets these past couple months. enjoy the free DL :)

'Helical' is a work composed of four organically structured tracks, based on Hypnotic Techno and Hard Groove. Grotesque textures, twisted rhythms, and various sonic layers take center stage, pulling the listener beyond the boundaries of reality.

The name 'Helical' symbolizes not only the structural characteristics of the music but also the experience of dissonance and disconnection, as well as the mental trajectory of deconstruction and reconstruction of the self within that context. The tracks unfold like a spiral that constantly progresses and distorts, rather than relying on simple repetition. This conveys to the listener a sensation akin to the endless flow of thought without a clear destination, or the feeling of being trapped in a space with no exit.

Through this album, ROS3 externalizes the discomfort of humanity hidden within mechanical rhythms, and the clash between the reality faced and the inner self, through sound. It is a sonic translation of the disharmony and anxiety lurking beneath the surface of reality, and the fundamental sense of dislocation about existence. This approach is manifested in a cold and densely designed sound across the tracks, each containing varying degrees of destruction and tension, yet all organically connected like a massive structure.

'Helical' reflects ROS3's mental worldview, with a focus on inner exploration and the depth of self. Each track delves into the complexity of human existence and internal conflicts through psychological and emotional journeys. ROS3's musical expression offers the listener a chance to confront their own emotions and discover inner truths. Ultimately, this album proposes a spiral journey of continuous transformation and growth through music, delivering deep resonance and a sense of connection. 'Helical' goes beyond simple rhythms and beats to offer a soundscape that explores emotional depth and aids in understanding the intricacies of the self.

I did a rework of my track "salt fat acid heat" released in 2024. I love the vibes coming out of it and wanted to make it warmer with some more pepper in it. I made the kick punchier, push the dunun (drums from West Africa countries used for instance in Mali, Senegal or Guinea) in the foreground, gave more groove to the boogie piano, among other things. A more energetic and dancing track with a dreamy side !
