MOED is a very special selection of obscure edits, a side project from MOM, based in Barcelona.
The idea of this “DJ USE ONLY” material comes from Da Silva, an undercover label partner and a great collector, who made one of the edits. This EP also features well known producers like Jimi Bazzouka aka Joakim and Pedro Vian, the label owner.
Obscure Edits Volume 1 has a distinct 1980s feel, with each editor breathing new life into their chosen track. The first edit on the EP is PV’s edit Live In Japan. It features powerful synths, tight percussion and as you might expect, Japanese vocals. Next up is Da Silva’s version of My Man. This edit sees layered synths and a bassline provide a wonderful groove, where they are joined by heartbroken vocals. Finally, we have Jimi Bazzouka aka Joakim’s take on Somerset Hills. Here, a playful flute with an eastern feel is laid over strong keys and adaptable percussion. This is a strong selection of edits, which are ready for the dancefloor.

FHUO # 33 // Hilan Island

In 2017 Brooklyn's Bryce Hackford spent a week at the PRAH Foundation in Margate (UK) recording rhythmic foundations and the environment around him. After his residency, eleven musician friends contributed their performances to what would become Safe (Exits). All of these contributions, however, were made in isolation and the task of mixing them together became the crux of the production.

Bryce's records largely explore improvisation with electronics, using recording as the compositional medium, and feature the occasional contributing musician. Eleven make Safe (Exits) more of a chance ensemble record, with players in unlikely combinations, from disparate backgrounds both personal and musical, pushing a collage aesthetic beyond sampling. The poetics of these sounds is the focus of this album.

Safe (Exits) attempts to create a rare space where rhythms get propulsive enough to make one dance yet become subtle enough to make them nod into the serene vistas of distant, contemplative waves.

Safe (Exits) is Bryce's first album since 2015 and second release with Spring Theory.

If you've ever listened to the Ross From Friends you watched the sunrise to the guitar solo from the song "Talk Me U'll Understand" at least once. As it happens, the guitarist from this band (Jed Hampson) made a mix for us on behalf of his own fucking cool project called slumberjunkie.

Jed said: "The great sleep descended upon the world, and humanity was induced into dormancy – an infinite and isolated dreamworld. As years passed and humankind adjusted to the stasis, they were able to connect with one another and explore this new boundless existence. Slumberjunkie is a journal of every dream, vision and nightmare shared at the end of the world".

Kalita are honoured to officially release for Record Store Day 2020 (29th August!) for the first time since 1983 Marcy Luarks & Classic Touch's mythical American-Nigerian Afro boogie masterpiece 'Electric Murder', accompanied by extensive liner notes based on interviews with Marcy's family and producer Daniel Irabor.

The product of the then husband and wife team of Marcy and Dan, 'Electric Murder' brought together both the former's American and the latter's Nigerian roots; recorded in London with UK-based session musicians, this mix of heritage and styles resulted in an Afro disco album unlike any other.

B2. Marcy Luarks & Classic Touch - Shake

Dutch DJ, music curator and radio host Carista presents Modern Intimacy Volume 1, her first compilation album for United Identities shines a light on rising talents from The Netherlands. Captivating and forward-thinking, the carefully curated selection holds ten electronic-acoustic tracks that are drenched in soul, varying from dreamy songs to intimate treasures for dancefloors.

Modern Intimacy Volume 1 kicks off with two moving soul hymns; Jelee's impressive digital 'Diaspora' and Quanza's acoustic, multi-instrumental 'A Death Supreme'. Sykes brings the broken drums with his infectious builder 'Take'. It is the perfect bridge to the five genre-defying house tracks on the compilation; the lush sounding 'Gloom' by United Identities long-stay Beraber, Laza's groover 'Revelations', Najel Monteiro's hazy 'Limbo' and Panda Lassow's chuggy 'Stability'.
