 زندگی چیست؟ عشق ورزیدن، زندگی را به عشق بخشیدن، زنده است آن که عشق می‌ورزد، دل و جانش به عشق می‌ارزد، آدمی زاده را چراغی گیر ، روشنایی پرست شعله پذیر، خویشتن سوزی انجمن فروز، شب نشینی هم آشیانه‌ی روز، آتش این چراغ سحر آمیز ،عشقِ آتش نشینِ آتش خیز، آدمی بی زلال این آتش،  مشت خاکی ست پر کدورت و غش، تنگ و تاری اسیر آب و گل است ، صنمی سنگ چشم و سنگ دل است، صنما گر بدی و گر نیکی، تو شبی بی‌چراغ تاریکی،  آتشی در تو می‌زند خورشید، کنده‌ات باز شعله‌ای نکشید؟ چون درخت آمدی، زغال مرو میوه‌ای، پخته باش، کال مرو
سیب و به نیست میوه‌ی این دار
میوه‌اش آتش است آخر کار
خشک و تر هر چه در جهان باشد
مایه‌ی سوختن در آن باشد
سوختن در هوای نور شدن
سبک از حبس خویش دور شدن
کوه هم آتش گداخته بود
بر فراز و فرود تاخته بود
آتشی بود آسمان آهنگ
دم سرد که کرد او را سنگ؟
ثقل و سردی سرشت خارا نیست
نور در جسم خویش زندانی ست
سیب و به نیست میوه‌ی این دار
میوه‌اش آتش است آخر کار

It sounds like a sacred canon lost in time. There is an almost religious spiritual force; the strings glide, the pedal note creeps forward while a soprano and mezzo soprano adds to the cinematic air. Inspired by the ancient custom of ritualized medieval expulsions in the city of 'Camerinum' (now Novara, Italy) one can find the whole spectrum of humanity within this delicate 21st century modern-classical piece.

“Throughout history, this expression has been used to describe various ritual group expulsions and the deduction of colonies, particularly with regard to people getting back to nature.
For example, the Italian town of Nocera was founded in the 7th Century BC by inhabitants from Camerinum, who left their ancestral homeland during a so-called Ver Sacrum.
In ancient Rome, during times of calamities such as pandemics, earthquakes, wars, or plagues, they used to devote children born in spring – from the 1st of March to the 30th of April – to the gods Jupiter and Mars. Then, when they turned 20 or 21, these children were required to leave the community to begin new settlements”

Sounding like some long lost, sacred canon, Ver Sacrum – the new album from Bruno Sanfilippo – marks something of a departure for the Barcelona-based pianist and composer. Far more orchestral in nature, there’s a spiritual, quasi-religious force to these pieces; strings swoop and soar, maudlin organs plough slowly, sorrowfully forward, while several sopranos add to the ecclesiastical air. But there’s hope and joy here too, and a childlike playfulness – playing these tensions against each other is what makes Ver Sacrum such an intense, rewarding listen. Inspired and informed by the ancient custom of ritualised expulsions of the same name, one can find the whole spectrum of humanity within these nine pieces: sorrow, loss, love, rebirth, change, hope, and the indefatigable human spirit. Spurv [Norwegian for sparrow] is a Norwegian instrumental post rock/metal band, founded in 2011. The band consists of Herman Otterlei (guitar), Gustav Jørgen Pedersen (guitar), Eirik Ørevik Aadland (guitar), Hans-Jakob Jeremiassen (bass), Simon Ljung (drums) and Simen Eifring (trombone).
 
The band has previously released two records, the EP Blader som faller til jorden og blir til nye trær (Doognad/Diger, 2012) and the debut album Skarntyde (No Forevers, 2015). The second album Myra is out on Fysisk Format 01.06.18!
