The sensationally slick soulful drum & bass master Winslow is back with a brand new EP hot off the press, and it’s clear he makes his music just how he likes his tea - rich, hearty and not by using a kettle… ‘Thinking Of You’ is an all-encompassing four-track release with stateside sprinklings of hip-hop, jazz and soul influences. With this EP being some of his strongest creative output to date, Winslow continues to make his mark following on from the successes of previous releases including his ‘Breaking News’ and ‘Sandalwood Nights’ EPs, as well as a solid scattering of singles including ‘Midwest Shuffle’ on the ‘Forza Horizon 5: Hospital Soundtrack’ LP and ‘Bop & Weave’ on Lens’ ‘Hospital Mixtape’.

EP title track ‘Thinking Of You’ sees Winslow team up with fellow US-based artist and legendary microphone controller T.R.A.C to cook up another sublime hip-hop infused drum & bass masterpiece. T.R.A.C’s Brooklyn-style flows and witty wordplay align perfectly with Winslow’s soulful sample selection and rumbling basslines. Once again the American allstar duo create another corker after previously linking up on the widely acclaimed ‘Breaking News’ which dropped earlier this year.

Stepping into the deeper realms of drum and bass, ‘Disappointment Riddim’ certainly doesn’t live up to its title. Further affirming the tea connoisseur’s ability to effortlessly switch up his style whilst remaining true to the funk and soul permeated Winslow sound, expect a carefully crafted amalgamation of old-school soul samples, tight-knit drum work and a deep, deadly bassline.

‘GreenGreyBlue’ is a window into Winslow’s more emotive side, with delicate piano flutterings, stripped-back percussion and his very own warped vocals. This stunner of a track will leave you confident in Winslow’s responsibility of teaching the next generation of musicians when he’s not in the studio himself…

Teaming up with London-based producer and long-time friend PRSPKTV, ‘Slapbox Funk’ is an undeniably vibey dancefloor cut to shake things around for the final track of the EP. Straight out the gate with thumping four to the floor kick drums and eerie atmospherics, this high-energy skipper will leave you with your hands on your hips begging for a breather in the rave.

Spending a chunk of his 2022 summer in the UK, Winslow has made his DJ debut across a variety of iconic venues including Studio 338 and Lloyd’s Ampitheatre in Bristol. You’ll also be able to catch him at Hospitality Weekend In The Woods in September. When he’s not producing the finest drum & bass or tearing up clubs & festivals, you can find Winslow creating unique content including vlogs, DJ mixes and topic discussions over on his Youtube and Patreon channels.

Then one of Med School’s youngest ever signings with his compilation feature ‘No More’, drum & bass head turner Whiney has stepped up to the plate for his first solo release since officially joining the Hospital Records roster. Reputable for supplying heavy duty sonics, ‘Bubblers Part One’ is a supreme development of the 25-year old’s highly sought signature sound. Home to four fresh cuts marking the start of his trailblazing new three-part ‘Bubblers’ series, Whiney’s latest EP proves he’s got the technique and flair to be a lead player in the scene.

Jungle-infused gritty stepper ‘No Good’ gets things rolling with old-school soundscapes and a captivating R&B style vocal. A fierce ascending bassline accompanied by raw breaks and crisp percussion hits explode into play, setting the track up to be a future classic that continues to carry the foundations of drum & bass into the sounds of today.

Featuring the vocals of mic veteran MC GQ, ‘Guernsey Airport Bubbler’ is straight-talking and deadly. Written in the lounge of Guernsey Airport amidst his busy touring schedule pre-lockdown, this quirky heavy hitter comes close to being a textbook audible representation of a true bubbler.

Minimal sounding and darker in vibe, ‘Black Ice’ offers a copious amount of distorted swells, a throbbing sub line and snappy drums which keep the tune swinging throughout. Icey by name but extremely hot in nature - proceed with caution! ‘November’ rounds off the EP as it draws closer to Whiney’s trip-hop and future bass oriented inspirations. Thumping kick drums, high pitched vocal chops and dreamy synth work are projected into a glistening beacon showcasing the far reaching ability of his skill as a creator.

With an impressive collection of releases under his belt on the recently closed Med School imprint, including ‘Stop The Clock / Breadcrumbs (feat. Moving to London from São Paulo eleven years ago, S.P.Y was quick to establish himself within the UK drum+bass scene. After six months of working with only basic equipment, S.P.Y’s natural talent for production saw his first ever release signed to Metalheadz in 2005, with a release on Hospital’s Medschool imprint soon following in 2006.  S.P.Y began collaborating with artists such as Marcus Intalex, Total Science, Kasra and DJ Marky. In 2009 S.P.Y released his first solo EP on Marcus Intalex’s label Soul:R and had releases on many other labels including Digital Soundboy and Innerground. 

The following years were immensely successful for S.P.Y, with Friction including five S.P.Y tracks on his MoS compilation and Andy C featuring four tracks on ‘Nightlife’. Proving his production quality and consistency in 2010 / 2011, S.P.Y delivered standout releases on Ram, Metalheadz, Critical, Shogun and Spearhead – Most notably the anthemic ‘By Your Side’. S.P.Y also took on high-profile remixes for the likes of Deadmau5, Claude von Stroke, LTJ Bukem, Chase & Status, Delilah and Zinc ft. Miss Dynamite, with S.P.Y’s own personal re-lick of Zero 7’s ‘In The Waiting Line’ becoming a signature in his live sets.

Signing to Hospital in 2012, his debut LP, ‘What The Future Holds’ was released to critical acclaim. The LP not only received significant support from fellow artists and topped online sales charts, but was also awarded the coveted ‘Best Album’ at the annual 2012 Drum & Bass Arena awards. S.P.Y backed up this release with a relentless tour schedule of Australia, the United States, Canada, Russia, Asia, New Zealand and Europe. 

S.P.Y’s skills behind the decks rival his studio talents and he delights fans with an educated blend of old school classics and fresh new beats. Always one to stay true to his roots, S.P.Y has a unique ability to bring his trademark underground sound to a worldwide audience. Alternating between beautiful, orchestral, musical sets and dark, rolling mixes, S.P.Y captures the emotions of the crowd. Whether he is playing at a high-profile festival or an intimate club show, S.P.Y always delivers.

In 2013 S.P.Y was again busy touring the world, playing at major festivals such as Tomorrowland, Global Gathering and Electric Daisy Carnival. He delivered successful remixes of James Zabiela’s ‘Perseverance’, Chris Malinchak’s ‘So Good To Me’ and Five Knives’s ‘All Fall Down’ on Red Bull Records. In addition to these achievements, S.P.Y was also selected to write, in collaboration with London Elektricity and Diane Charlemagne, the theme song for the 2014 Street Child World Cup. The track ‘I Am Somebody’ has helped to generate awareness and bring a new interest to Street Child World Cup, advocating for street children’s rights worldwide.

Moving into 2014 and S.P.Y is taking us ‘Back to Basics’ with his second LP. Released in two parts over the coming months, ‘Back to Basics’ draws inspiration from the deeper, darker sounds of drum+bass, and features collaborations with Total Science, Rene La Vice, and vocalists Diane Charlemagne, Grimm and DRS MC.

If any D+B artist can truly claim to be the “producers producer” then Carlos S.P.Y surely has a good case. If the comments on this album by his luminaries are anything to go by: "One of my fave producers" says DJ Hype, "Carlos back to his filthy best!" say Total Science, "There's only one S.P.Y” says Doc Scott.
