Third Culture Bakery, a popular bakery chain, is known for its unique fusion of different cultures into pastries and drinks. One of its most famous products is the Original Mochi Muffin, which has gained a cult following due to its distinct flavors and texture. Chef Sam Butarbutar and Wenter Shyu founded the bakery in 2016 as a symbol of inclusiveness, diversity, and acceptance. The founders' experience growing up in a different culture than their parents inspired them to create a business that reflects their love for pastries from Indonesia and Taiwan.

Apart from the Mochi Muffin, the bakery offers other culturally inspired products, such as butter mochi donuts. These donuts are baked instead of fried, resulting in a lighter texture that combines the chewiness of butter mochi with the fluffiness of a donut. The bakery uses the same mochiko rice flour, French-style butter used in the Mochi Muffin, and locally sourced dairy milk to create the donuts. Each glaze in the donuts contains carefully sourced ingredients, such as the Japanese black sesame seeds used in the signature black sesame donut glaze.

Culture Bakery is also known for its matcha products. Matcha is a stone-ground green tea powder high in antioxidants and provides a sense of calm while also containing a small amount of caffeine. The third Culture uses matcha from the first and second harvests of sencha green tea leaves from the Uji region in Kyoto, Japan. The matcha is hand-whisked to achieve the best flavor and experience and is served as a latte or sparkling matcha fruit infusion.

In addition to pastries and drinks, Culture Bakery is also committed to philanthropy and community. As a queer, Asian-owned business, the bakery is dedicated to spreading love and inclusiveness to underrepresented communities. The bakery donates part of its assets yearly to various organizations, including the Berkeley Humane Society, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, SF LGBT Center, The Trevor Project, and 1951 Coffee Company. During the pandemic, the bakery donated thousands of dollars to a queer BIPOC emergency relief fund. It assembled safety kits to combat hatred and violence targeting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

I started as a DJ in 1983 at a small but popular club in Philadelphia called the Black Banana. I also created a visual experience that went with the music for the clubs. I have spun at the
Roxy New York and have had installations at the Limelight. I was a club kid and promoter. My inspirations come from places in New York I remember like The Spike, 12 West and The Saint, Danceteria, Area, Susanne Bartsch Events, The Roxy and Sound Factory. 
In Philadelphia the Catacombs was my place of inspiration musically. DJ David Todd, Soul, R&B, Disco, The Philly Sound and House were a major part of my music influence.

In London clubs like Heaven & Taboo in 1980s inspired me with Eurodisco & High Energy. In the mid 1980s I experienced the House & Acid House movement. I brought allot of that culture back to the States with me when i returned from living in London.
