Musician, producer and audio engineer Andrew Nerviano’s work under the Plebeian moniker over the past several years is nothing if not distinctive; a heady blend of syrupy low-end, delicate sonic accents, and swirling rhythmic figures that give his work a hypnotic, psychedelic quality that’s as evocative as it is unique. Bringing his brand of shapeshifting techno to French label Grid this year, the artist has put forth a four-track EP titled Contrast, merging adventurous, deep-listening sensibilities with a driving focus on the dancefloor.
Based in New York, Nerviano was a cornerstone of the label and party series Sweat Equity, which saw early releases from Ben Ritz, Overland and Deli Girls, among others, a string of projects tied together by sonic intensity and Nerviano’s work engineering and/or mastering each of the releases on the label. During that time, he was conceptualising and honing the dimensions of the sonic palette of his own project, delving into modular synthesis, digital processing and a hybrid studio practice that mixed a range of outboard gear with a range of compositional techniques.
He would follow up a pair of records on his own imprint with releases from Munich’s Molten Moods and Ronan’s Eternal Ocean imprint, as well as contributions on releases from UWU Dust Bath, Pseudonym and Index, before announcing his latest with Grid this spring. The record in draws its core material from a set conceptualised and performed at the inaugural edition of Dripping, a music fest organsed in New Jersey by fellow New York techno mainstay Relaxer.

Sam Goku… sublime producer… superlative deejay… stand-up guy.  This night felt really special as it was the reprise of his outstanding US debut at Mansions a few years back. Hearing him in person for the first time, I was struck not only by his command of the room but moreover by his effortless weaving of fresh and mind-bending sounds in a whimsical and completely intuitive way. The leftfield-loving Lithuanian started collecting music as a kid. Soon after moving to Vilnius, when Electroclash anthems ruled the Earth, Marijus decided to embark on a DJ's journey.

Now, some years later, you know him as one half of 12 INČŲ PO ŽEME, the DJ duo he steers with Simas Slabačiauskas. The two operated the Smala nights in collaboration with another Vilnius nightlife staple, Manfredas.

These days, Marijus started sharing his uncanny favorites with audiences across the globe through the Per Amzius Ambient show on Radio Vilnius. From folk and jazz leftovers from the long-forgotten times, via the gloomy picks from the end of the century to contemporary sedated beats.

After a little hiatus, the mix series is back with our 6th mix coming from the fantastic @stephenhowe. Stephen is a DJ with tangents in all directions tucked up his sleeves, with bouncy minimal, squelchy facemelting bangers and bleepy breaky electro all part of his repertoire, he hosts a Refuge Show and has recent sets out on Awkwardly Social (as 'Ecki Pirates' together with the last DJ on our mix series, Deejay Slug), Astral Cast and Keep Hush. Perhaps seeing himself as more of a producer than a DJ, Stephen has released music on Rhythym Section, Astral VIP & rebirth as well as his own EPs : 'Mimesis' on Welt Discos & his most recent release on Flux White 'FXWL 24A'

This mix is an unusual one from our series, being a recording from a non-worthwhile tangents event, but Stephen got in touch with us to say he was really happy to recently get the chance to play a very free set on a very nice soundsystem at Tresor's Aurora Bar and he took the opportunity to play this grungy downtempo set, capturing all of our feelings of the cold grey Berlin winter - we're super excited to be able to share it with more people as the next mix in our series!

Starting with splashy breaks and distorted bass, with groovy percs scattered throughout, this mix gives way to more organic sounds and the feeling of spring hope as it comes to a close.
