Description:
Following the experimental streak thrown down by our two released albums, Modal Analysis proudly presents Het Zweet – Archives Volume 1: 1982-1988, a compilation of the Dutch outsider legend painstakingly picked from over 100 hours of unheard tape. An early electronic pioneer who employed homemade percussion, wind, and string instruments alongside a few more modern pieces, mainly a Korg MS-10 and the tape recorder he used as his primary composition tool, Marien Van Oers occupies a lonely branch on the tree of this music’s early efforts. In sixteen pieces ranging from only seconds to well over ten minutes, we explore the full breadth of his accomplishments, from familiar pounding industrial grooves with vocals to ambient fragments and into extended, entrancing efforts bridging this gap but finding few parallels.

Most closely akin to Muslimgauze, Test Dept. or Fad Gadget, all musicians who shared his outsider practice while remaining thoroughly immersed in contemporary sounds that paralleled their own work, Het Zweet is striking for the diversity of his sound and for its meticulous composition, formed of carefully arranged layers of sonic detritus culled from his collection of homemade instrumentation and electronic distortions. Also included is a live document from February 1984 in his hometown of Breda, Holland, whose sparse crowd noise and raw phonics tell all too well the difficulties of his music then as now. Finally rising to greater exposure since his death in 2013 alongside similarly minded, now-departed contemporaries like Byrn Jones, whose works also prominently appeared on the Staalplaat label/zine, 2022 marked the high point thus far of Van Oers’ reevaluation. Modal Analysis passionately continues this mission with our first volume of archives dedicated to the memory of this bold innovator gone before his time.

Body Musick is happy to announce the release of 6-track E.P. 'Tracer' by Stockholm-based duo Harlem Electronics.

The E.P. features 6-tracks building on the Liaisons Dangereuses-esque electro-funk and no wave showcased on the duo's album' Bait' for Berlin-label Veyl Records last year.

'Tracer' brings down the H.E. sound to a creepy tempo driven by propulsive rhythms that build tension and urgency. Chopped-up samples sourced in a way that recalls German artist Hito Steyerl's essay 'In defense of the poor image' and processed for percussive effect intermingle with focused yet unrushed vocals. Simultaneously sly, seductive, and menacing, the vocals on 'Tracer' mirror the record's theme of false prophets and the contemporary manifestations of religious hegemony. It's a tough, teasing, and irresistibly contagious soundtrack to humanity's ongoing mutation.

The side one features artists who already appeared in Marguerite discography. A1 opens up with ‘Noi Non Ci Saremo’ a bruise of nostalgic, new-romantic and dreamy 80s vibes from Diana Berti - @violet-poison, followed up by Black Dot’s ‘Recurrent Disorder’ with occult spoken-word intonation of @yasssa reminding of John Balance, over acid bassline, electro beat and syncopated noises by @allegedwitches. ‘Unknown Faces’ close up the A side - an EBM track with a killer raw beat and distorted bass ready for sweaty dancefloors from the label heads duo @bianconegativo. 
Flip side is unwrapped by one of the synth pioneer and UK based artist @timothy-j-fairplay with ‘Love Boat For Four’ that drags you straight into a sci-fi movie fiction with the 8 bit electronic synths. B2 is Highest Bidder from Harlem Electronics, a seductive minimal rhythm with a dark undertone. The journey ends with ‘Svart Magi’ an hardware industrial jam by the Swedish producer @celldod.

Drakkar Noir is a feceless figure who inhabits this world, an alias shamelessly lifted from a sleazy and long out-of-fashion scent, a brand name derived from a mashup of mythical pretensions and hollow advertising jargon. Part Human and part digital fiction, Drakkar Noir is, like the city itself, a shapeshifter who feeds and is fed by the collective dreams and nightmares floating above the buildings and into smoke-filled skies.
