Von played on this lovely track in 2003 (lyrics by Bob Russell, who also  wrote "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" with music by Carl Sigman)and always referred to it thereafter as doin' his "Ben Webster thing".

Crazy He Calls Me - Elizabeth Conant with Von Freeman

This song was an answer to a friend's grief over having to put his dog down.  It's from all dogs, to all of us.

I hope this song can offer some solace for those who have lost their companions.
