Following his majestic debut EP last year, Warm Nights, UK-based producer Reuben Vaun Smith is back with a full-length album under his belt, Sounds From the Workshop, arriving digitally August 27th via the trailblazing London-based Soundway Records, who also released his first EP. The new record finds the producer further refining his eclectic, exploratory approach to production, diving deep into sounds as varied as Soca, Benga, and Trip-Hop, and emphasizing live instrumentation and acoustics.

The result is a diverse assortment of deep and lush tropical house cuts that feel handcrafted and refreshing in their restless search for inventive summertime grooves. Track 1 of Side C, “Flee the Coop”, incorporates an off-kilter, reverb-laden guitar line that rubs up against a more sun-kissed Balearic house beat. On its own, this moaning guitar could feel completely incongruous with the rest of the song, but Reuben’s magic lies in his ability to effortlessly blend such elements into a cohesive whole. 

As the song reaches its crescendo, the guitar-infused rhythm is interrupted by synth squalls and beeps, hinting at an impending techno-inspired breakdown. But the result is not nearly as chaotic as one would expect––instead, the song maintains its laid-back, languorous tempo until the very last note before petering out. This speaks somewhat to Reuben’s musical ethos; he’s not trying to break your brain or facilitate an out-of-body experience. He’s more concerned with finding new ways of maintaining a chill, nostalgic summer-vibe.

After numerous successful records on Ron Trent's "Future Vision" label, Volcov's "Neroli", DeepArtsound, Perpetual Rhythms, Osunlade's "Yoruba", and many others - "About U" is Trinidadian Deep's first release for Croatian label Burek.

Born and raised on the island of Trinidad and Tobago, today a place this producer calls "home" is found on various locations scattered all over the globe and a variety of influences is what is immediately evident by rich sounds and textures engraved onto this piece of vinyl.

A side, "I Want" is the most laid-back moment, in lack of a better term. Warm-sounding tribal percussions supporting the interaction of deep chords and wonderfully lush synths running thought the whole track only to get enriched with a beautiful piano line in the 2nd half. If there is track fitting to represent the sunset, that transition from day to night moment - "I Would" is the one.

B1 "Ghost" is the track on the record with the most forward-momentum. Deep tribal rhythms and lush synth lines are a sort-of a leitmotif on this record and are present here as well, with an occasional vocal snippet that only deepens the magic.

B2 "Abourisha" makes good use of those leitmotifs in a similarly effective but overall quite different manner. Broken rhythm gives it a slightly different energy, making it an ideal track for those 5 am moments when a track like this marks the night.

Estonian pioneer Raul Saaramets exists in many parallel musical universes and this is reflected in his stellar output as Ajukaja, mining a rich furrow of stand out, oddball yet eminently danceable, groovy house and beat experiments. As the program co-director for Estonia’s national radio station Raadio  2, he’s given his country unprecedented access to some of the hottest music on this planet. He’s also made some of the finest underground dance records over the last few years including ‘Stranger’, ‘Benga Benga’ and “Rare Birds’ (made with long time production partner Andrevski) which were hammered by the scenes elite. His Bergerac debut has been a long time coming but well worth the wait. 

Mhmhmh is a super vibey late night burner which quite obviously gets its title from the faintly Germanic, sleazy vocal sample which goes ‘um hum um hum’. 

Sklad trips you out even more with a mangled, ecstasy tinged fading in(tro) which gives you ‘that’ feeling

Ajukaja puts his disco hat on for side 2 with Ekleeer. A super danceable disco cut rolls out until the vocals drop in and you realise that David Lynch is on the remix. 

Walk previously saw light as a tape only track but it’s playful scuffed up jiggery pokery cried out for a vinyl release so here it is..

Ajukaja Mhmhmh EP Bergerac 011 Clips Out Now

Remix extravaganza ahead! What started as an attempt to transport Feater’s brillant outsider pop „Time Millionaire“ (taken from the Socialo Blanco album) onto a dance floor with one or two remixes, ended up as a feast served on three different platters with some heavy hitters. First up, Pépé Bradock and Ricardo Villalobos are crossing their beams. Spread over two 12“s, the masters of idiosyncrasies and splendid aural design, Bradock and Villalobos treat the voice of Vilja Larjosto with love and care and bring it into their respective universe during peak time: vocals, dubs, acapellas and bonus bits included. Expertly, tricky and inventive.
	Remix EP no. 3 merges different trajectories of UK dance music traditions (or Ireland for that matter). Man of the moment Krystal Klear takes the material down to love town: the sound of 1980s Island records meets NYC boogie and UK street soul sounds. Hessle Audio’s Pangaea follows the other path: uptempo bass fun with a driving dub and an instrumental pass. Last but not least, Feater & Sam Irl themselves deliver a blissed out dub of the original. Oh, and if you have enough time, flip over to the 10“ with an Aba Shanti-I approved UK reggae and lovers rock take on it by Blood Shanti.
