Optimo Music’s connection with South America continues to mushroom with this 4 track EP from Hermetics.

Santiago Niño a.k.a HERMETICS is an accomplished eclectic & conceptual electronic musician originally from Bogota, Colombia but now based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has a deep discography of releases across a range of genres. He plans to keep experimenting and exploring new sounds and unique percussive atmospheres. 

We asked Santiago to tell us a bit about The High Strangeness, and he goes deep......

The High Strangeness EP tells a story of the diversity of images, textures and atmospheres that I want to explore with this project, and it is also a tribute to many concepts and topics that interest me.

"High Strangeness" transmits a psychedelic drama, an astral journey through unknown dimensions, a leap into the cosmic, into the extrasensory universe and the dreamlike nature of reality. When I listen to this track I can't help but imagine Terence Mckenna telling his amazing experiences with Psilocybin and DMT. In part, this track is a tribute to the psychedelic counter-culture and its enigmas, Its high strangeness.

"Cobra Negra" is a state that connects me with the archetype of the warrior and his confrontation with his own shadow. There is an internal battle against the forces of nature and its' violent and mysterious fauna. This track takes place in an imaginary jungle where the warrior faces all the beasts, snakes and insects of his psyche.
 
The sound of "Coherence" places me in a pre-dynastic Egypt of high magic. It immerses me in its esoteric mysteries and its advanced spiritual technology. It evokes in me images of strange rites and ceremonies that were in direct communion with the stars and other planes of existence. Egyptian wisdom and enigmas never cease to amaze me, and this track is a tribute to my fascination with this civilisation, which seems to come from other worlds.

"Bon" is a track, that like "Coherence', is a tribute to a tradition, to an ancient shamanic culture, in this case, a tribute to the pre-Buddhist Tibetan 'Bon' tradition. The darkness, the hypnotism and the magnetism of its' mantras are what I wanted to capture in this track, an atmosphere that makes one travel to the strangest abysses of the magical and esoteric practices of an old pagan east.

Optimo Music Digital Danceforce 036 - Hermetics - High Strangeness EP

If Guatemala is on the map of the Dark Disco/Indie Dance scene, it is because of the global recognition Fabio Me Llaman Solteiro (SXDNS187) has achieved as a DJ and producer. Now, in order to consolidate even more the importance of the Caribbean country to the high-quality underground music world, Fabio established the project Sonido Moderna, a micro-label and music collective devoted to showcasing the interesting Central American sonority through the release of original pieces and collaborations with international artists.

After the acclaimed debut album, a compilation featuring local heroes Alan Es, Mike Rowave, Mverto Futura, and Fabio himself, plus Martian Superstars Hanzo & Yaman (SXDNS065), ID_UA (SXDNS229), MIJO, Max Jones (SXDNS234), among others, the second episode – “Gentel Decay” EP – brings together Israeli producer Mishell (SXDNS228) and a Latino Dream Team: ALF CHAMPION, Balam (SXDNS048), and Mike Rowave, who provided savoury remixes.

The track we chose to review/premiere brings ALF CHAMPION, an experimental producer, DJ, and visual artist from Guadalajara, Mexico, remodelling and overhauling the already intricate “Lost My Bongo's”. The Shamanic aura of the original is still present in ALF’s version but is now not so evident. The Mexican virtuoso took Mishell’s theme to a more breakbeat and old school rave-ish road whose outcome is a track more embodied and dirtier, ready to wreak havoc on the dance floor. Hats off, lad!

Call it female instinct; she knew something wasn't right. It happened years and years ago, the memory had been buried deep in the back of her mind, and with it the overwhelming guilt. She'd assumed she'd made it over the hurdle of being found out, that any chance of the truth coming out had long died out, but recently something told her that people knew. Slight glances, blunt interactions, distant relationships; these all led her to believe one thing, it was only a matter of time before the truth reared its ugly head.

What started out as an event series in their home of Kyiv is now being expanded by co-bosses Kostya Kottov and Techija to include a fresh label. Much like the sounds and styles that Povilno have championed through their parties, the inaugural outing - a compilation featuring artists from across the globe - concerns itself with psychedelic rhythms, leftfield downtempo and hypnotic slow burners. There's music from Inside Out co-founders Stevie R and Parisinos, from Lithuanian talent Roe Deers, Povilno label mate ID_UA and many more, who all help set the tone for what we can expect from the label in the future.

It was 2010 when Massimiliano Pagliara and Discodromo got together and started working on Costellazione K78. It’s finally time to reveal this piece of  italo-cosmic beauty landing on Cocktail d’Amore Music.
The spaceship starts off and a vocoder announces the destination. In the middle of the track there is an interference…Is that a hole? Oh right they are out of it! Going higher, higher…higher through space-time. 
B side is taken by a dub version where drums play the main role. Everything is condensing together, it feels like connection is lost, but the bass line comes in and takes control. Destination reached, time to celebrate.
Thank you guys for the efxapella, we’ll all do good use of it.
