PULP is finishing this year’s summer season with a lengthy affair by a certain Barry Helafonte called 'One Night'. Not much is known about the artist that delivers the 12th instalment for the PULP series. Nevertheless, production wise the sound is mature, and the drum machines sound like they are being hit by someone with vast experience. The balanced production quality of 'Keys to The City' is prominent. A squelchy bassline is dictating the rhythm whilst washes of pads and an outlandish lead come together to form a dripping whole.

'Keys to the City' resumes with friend of the label 'Moon B' on rework duties, turning the spaced out drums of the original into a more dancefloor oriented version. 'First Dance' is another Helafonte original that is based on a touching lead synth and low down pads. 'Connecting' closes down the A side with some more hazy atmospheres and bass hits.

On the B side we find ‘Euphoria’. A breezy jam that contains touches of electro, funk and modern boogie. German producer ‘Glenn Astro’ delivers an advanced version of 'Euphoria' that uses cryptic drum patterns and an acidic bassline to change up the vibe of the original. As a welcome addition 'Astro' throws in an ambient version called 'Super Chill Mix'.

'Pleasure Calling' is the final Barry Helafonte original. A timeless sounding boogie cut that will send the listener into glows of bliss. One Night will be available from all specialized retailers starting September 2019.

Following on from his wonderful So High EP released on eclectics at the start of the year, James has captured that moment when the sun is down, the night people have arrived, the BPMs are increasing and the dancefloor is moving and ready to go…… We will dance again together soon peoples #stayin

For the next few mixes we are going to focus on the heads behind the scenes of some of the UK hottest up and coming labels. First up we have A record collector and DJ for over 15 years, Miguel Colmenares, the co-founder of cultural platform Colectivo Futuro and more recently Olindo Records, a label releasing music from his native Venezuela and the world. Now based in London, his DJ sets are infused with soulful music from across the globe with a heavy nod to his Caribbean roots. Alongside his Colectivo Futuro partners, Miguel has hosted and played at The Jazz Cafe, Brilliant Corners, Giant Steps, Total Refreshment Centre, and Five Miles in London; Public Records in New York; Concreta Sala, Technique Records, and Gramps in Miami; Nochenegra in CDMX; Berlin Community Radio and Michelberger Hotel in Berlin; Sala Siroco in Madrid; and King Kong Lady in Barcelona. Miguel has also co-founded Venezuelan reissue label Música Infinita, which will launch in winter 2020 with a re-release of The Message by Gerry Weil, keep an eye out!

Well well well. Look who's back!

After 11 years of monthly editions of my Music Is My Sanctuary show I decided I needed a creative break which ended up taking two years. It certainly wasn't for a lack of passion for music or for sharing it with all of you. I felt like I lost my sense of purpose with the show and I certainly didn't want to simply go through the motions if the passion wasn't there. Creative endeavours shouldn't be forced. 

It feels great to start this show again and I'm excited about the future of it and most all of sharing music with you.
