Invisible City Editions reissues a selection of classic street soul tunes from the legendary duo Soul Connection (Toyin Agbetu and Earl Myers). A mix of well-loved tracks from Soul Connection's 1988 "Rough & Ready" and 1990 "Raw Street Soul", remastered from the original master reels. This one has been a long time in the making and we are really excited to finally put it out!

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more central figure to the story of ’80s UK Street Soul than Toyin Agbetu. A former computer programming prodigy turned musician/artist/producer, Agbetu was one of the principals in the development of a sound that merged the playful romance of soul music with the DIY ethos and raw, drum machine-driven beats of hip-hop and other burgeoning underground movements of the time. With his London-based independent record label, Unyque Artists, and a studio HQ-ed out of his Hackney bedroom, Toyin would embark on a remarkably prolific run as a producer and artist under a myriad of aliases and pseudonyms on associated spin-off labels. 
One such project was Soul Connection – a collaboration with friend and fellow indie label head Earl Myers that, despite its low-key bordering on phantom profile, yielded two albums, Rough and Ready (1988) and Raw Street Soul (1990) released on UA affiliate Intrigue Records. Though both LPs were well received upon initial release, the years since have only increased their stature amongst fans of elusive grooves. As evidenced by the six beloved tracks collected on Invisible City Editions’ Street Soul EP, Soul Connection’s addictively simple hooks, punchy mid-tempo rhythms, and forays into breakbeat and house remain as easy to appreciate as ever.

Melbourne’s 30/70 join forces with London and Australia’s South East elite beat-makers to deliver ‘Fluid Motion: Remixed’ on Rhythm Section International.

After the fruits of 2018’s luminous and lifted ‘Elevations’ iteration, we were keen to see how the rich, soulful and instrumental layers of last Summer’s ‘Fluid Motion’ LP could be reimagined by some of the key players in our mutual musical scenes. So, we invited a selection of our nearest and dearest to create their take on the track from the record that spoke to them most.

The ‘Fluid Motion: Remixed’ EP expands the album’s effortless eclecticism but offers energies more suited to the dancefloor that we’re missing oh so much. The first single comes from fellow label affiliates SAUL who kick things off with a bouncy breaks flip of N.Y.P., transforming it’s tender tones into a bright and lively party starter. It’s followed up by Peckham’s hazy house producers, Athlete Whippet, who inject ’Tempted’ with foot-stomping percussion and a moody electronic groove. We then move to the Southern Hemisphere with Close Counters, who serve up an ‘Impermanence’ rework that journeys from sweaty bruk stylings to a sunny club chug. Setwun amps up the heat of Allysha’s pacey lyrical performance in title track ‘Fluid Motion' with squelchy low-swinging synths, showcasing his signature fusion of dance and funk. From Sydney’s self-proclaimed ‘Soulstranaut’ to “the Dilla of Deptford” (STW), Maxwell Owin chops up ‘Tempted’ with a vigorous chasing tempo, twinkling glitches, a plunging bassy breakdown and seductive whispers to propel his gritty-city sonic aesthetic into a far-flung atmospheric nebula.

The Fluid Motion remix project sees the musical worlds of SE16 and Melbourne meet once again, proving it to be an alliance that just keeps on giving.

After releasing New Zealand composer, drummer and producer Cory Champion’s acclaimed Clear Path Ensemble jazz album at the start of 2020, we’re proud to bookend the project with a new digital EP of remixes of songs off the album by Kush Jones, Christoph El Truento, AceMo, Glenn Astro, Daniel Hayles, and Champion under his Borrowed CS house and techno alias.

Where the Clear Path Ensemble album was a vivid ode to psychedelia, spiritual jazz, planetary rhythms and celestial oddities, these remixes turn his cosmic compositions into suped-up starcraft. Glen Astro and Kush Jones give ‘Jerry’s Funk’ a series of electro, dub techno and footwork re-rubs. Christoph El Truento and Borrowed CS both reimagine ‘Drip’ for the orbital nightclubs of the future. Mongo Skato rebuilds ‘Future Fatigue’ to a pounding pulse, and AceMo takes ‘Panorama Actual Spectral’ to Saturn and back. Rounding things out Daniel Hayles meditates on ‘Inner Space’ through sparse-but-emotive piano figures.

Church welcomes Swedish native DJ Clea for her debut EP with the imprint, entitled ‘Historia’. The first single ‘I Want To Stay’ drops on August 28th, followed by the full EP - out everywhere on September 11th.

Clea Herlöfsson has become quite the staple amongst Stockholm’s prolific DJ scene. She’s currently a resident at one of Stockholm’s foremost underground venues Under Bron and the self-pronounced Dancing Queen has been making her way through some of the world’s top venues and festivals over recent years including Else (Berlin), Social Room (Hong Kong) and Kaiku (Helsinki). After quitting her day job to focus on production, she’s honed a sound custom made for the peak-time having released on labels like Unknown To The Unknown and Study Records - transmitting nostalgic feelings of mid-rave contentment and dancefloor togetherness.

DJ Clea’s opening track ‘Gothic Girl’ is a self-portrait of her signature style, building trance-like synth lines and high-energy kick drums before dropping harder breaks as the track revs up. Lead single ‘I Want To Stay’ is up next, introduced by ethereal swirls and crisp percussion before 90s-style vocals and dreamy pads come together for a house track reminiscent of vintage RnB. Next up is ‘Leon Stone’ - a deeper track undercut by a low-slung melody and laidback retro synth sounds.
