Up and Out

The third week of Advent is characterized by the oncoming joy of Christ’s arrival. It’s a break in the solemn tone, where we fill our hearts with the joy of the shepherds’ (this week’s candle on the Advent wreath is known as the “shepherd’s candle”) upon hearing the announcement of Christ’s birth. In fact, the greeting “…“Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” [Luke‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬] is likely where this association originated.
I wanted to create a piece of music evocative of this joy, which isn’t an emotional joy—one that depends on momentary elation. But a deep, everlasting joy of the greatest love given to the human heart: Emmanuel. 
The third Sunday of Advent is known as Gaudete, which in Latin means “rejoice.”
It is symbolized by the only pink candle on the Advent wreath, to show this week is for rejoicing—for embracing the joy of our Savior, and heading down the home stretch of anticipatory celebration at Christmas.
May every heart rejoice in the glory of Christ, our Lord.

The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear. The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. A place for sound freaks lashing out from the dark. 

So there's all kinds of stuff on this page, but after months of schizophrenic debates about who was playing with who and who took the lead while doing it, finally, the decision was made: all my alter egos got together and decided to form a band. From 2020 on new tracks are created under the moniker Gruppo Infernal. Only pure MMTJ tracks will still be named as such. 

Gruppo Infernal still relies on my work as Me, my Thumb and Jack, an ongoing quest for a liberating approach to sound creation where the human body acts as an oscillator amplifying the natural 50hz hum. Direct live recording, improvisations and delay loops only using analog filters and effects. No editing, no overdubs. Gruppo Infernal adds digital treatment to this original sound material. 

UnterPitch was an alter ego using samples & synths.
Bleached Coffins was a one-off project using guitars.

I love listening to & creating ambient, dark ambient, avant-garde & experimental electronica (and the occasional beatscape). I have no professional aspirations  - I just really like creating music / manipulating sounds. It's my way of relaxing after a hard day at the office. All my tracks are produced using monitoring headphones (Audix A140) so I recommend that you listen to my music through headphones. My DAW of choice is FL Studio. I also use Reason every now & then. 


To the artists I follow; I do my best to try to listen to as many of your tracks as possible each night (I listen to each track all the way through - you went through the effort to create a track so you deserve to have it heard in full). If I miss a recent upload of yours, please forgive me...
