Hidden-by-the-Wall is a new soundwork by :zoviet*france: commissioned by Green Croft Arts as part of its Collision and Conflict project.

Collision and Conflict is a GPS-triggered geolocated sound walk, presented through the Echoes phone app, that follows a circular route between Walltown and Green Croft in Northumberland, UK. The route runs alongside and close by Hadrian's Wall, a vast Roman defensive fortification that runs east/west across northern England, marking the northwestern frontier of the Roman empire. While following the route, walkers can listen to each of the 14 new music, sound and spoken word Collision and Conflict compositions at the locations to which they've been allocated along the way. Hidden-by-the-Wall can be found along a stretch of open country between Walltown and Thirlwall, a high point from which the distant Scottish borders to the north and the North Pennines to the south straddle the horizons.

In devising Hidden-by-the-Wall we set out to capture hidden and unnoticed sounds in the vicinity and recreate lost sounds that would have been heard decades ago but have now gone forever. The original field recordings that form the hidden and unnoticed sounds are here in this playlist. More about each track can be found in the description on its page. Those tracks form an  open remix project with 11 original, downloadable 24 bit / 48kbps field recordings we captured to create this track. We invite anyone to take these and use them to create something new. If you do, please post it here on SoundCloud and let us know – we very much want to hear what you do with them.

In 2003, Laura and Mark met for the first time at a performance by Steve Roden. All three collaborated four years later when Roden performed on their Ctrl+Alt+Repeat series, leading to a recording session in his painting studio and culminating in a track featured on Mem1’s +1 album (Interval Recordings, 2009). In 2012, Roden visited the Cetilias in their new home town of Providence, RI, where the three performed together and recorded additional material.

A Floating Wave of Air is comprised of the recordings made on these two occasions, and is available as a letterpress-printed, hand-numbered edition of 200.

Saru are very pleased to announce that Trichromatic Moiré, a new double CD featuring realisations of a graphic composition by Thomas Martin Nutt, is now available. 

Martin’s work with the physicality of interference takes place within the beating patterns of a multi-sensory field, a Moiré, and to celebrate his wonderful compositions, SARU invited a number of artists from around the world to realise his work.

The release features interpretations by Tetuzi Akiyama, Harriet Butler, Sarah Hennies, Ryu Hankil, Ko Ishikawa, David Lacey, Sally Ann McIntyre, Will Montgomery, Joseph Clayton Mills, Shirley Pegna, Rie Nakajima & Marie Roux, Samuel Rodgers, Lo Wie, and Keiko Yamamoto.
