Difference & Repetition

The song is inspired by Napoleon's exile to the island of St. Helena. Decades ago, in a history class in Siberia, Russia (Lead Singer-Aleksey's native home) Aleksey, was captivated by Napoleon and his legacy. He fantasized about what it would be like to be exiled to an island, let alone St. Helena-which he had no idea even existed.  These past mental images of Napoleon's exile on the island inspired him to create the mystical landscape in the form of a song. Hence, "St. Helena" was born.

MALMØ’s new single ‘The Way (feat. Eivør)’ is out now.

Taken from the recently released debut album ‘We Come From The Stars’, the new single sees Danish 5-piece MALMØ teaming up with acclaimed Faroese singer-songwriter Eivør (Game of Thrones, God of War, The Last Kingdom) to share vocal duties with the band’s own Maria Malmoe. 

The video, choreographed by Laura Feline Ebbesen and filmed by Michelle Berg and Stinna Skrivergaard, reflects the tribal vibe of the track and Maria’s inspiration for writing it:

"The Way is about getting lost in the woods and finding your way through the wild. Ancient voices and tribal drums echo in the deep. You want to run and run without knowing where you’re headed. There it is, my ‘Way’, curvy and unknown but mine to follow. I leap off on the first step."

Bio- In Essence, "Paradise" is a song about what other people think is their ultimate paradise, in contrast, might be hell for someone else. It's a paradox of utopias. At the time of writing this song, we were fascinated how one person's perception of their ideal reality could be bi-polar opposite to another. As you listen to the song, not only do you hear a theme of angst in the lyrics, but in the instruments as well. As a band, we tried to create dissension in our sound by combining elements of Rap with Rock music. Instrumentally, we approached the song with an e-bow on the guitar and a "Nine Inch Nails" like backing drum track to create a dissonant sound. Then to cap it off, we asked our close rapper friend, Master Piece, to lay down some lyrics. We sent him the original music an ideas on some lyrics we had been throwing around about a "broken paradise". He did his magic and spit some incredible lyrics that helped capture the fragmented vibe we were going for.

Sometimes they’re welcome, sometimes they’re not. We all suffer, to a certain degree , with little voices  constantly warring  for occupancy of our head space. We wrote this song about a fellow band comrade that struggled immensely with little voices clouding his head daily. It was almost to the verge that it made him schizophrenic! While writing this song it dawned on us, hey, I hear those voices too. We suddenly felt an empathic bond in how we related to our band mate. Not only was he battling these internal voices, but so were we!  We felt this song also served as a purpose for all the others out there suffering more or less with little voices in their head. We wanted to say in our song, that we are like you, and you’re not alone.
