I made this mix because I noticed a lot of tracks coming through with a similar vibe or feeling to that of my favourite compilation series growing up, Global Underground. It kicked off last year with Call Super's Fluenka's Shelf, and then even more so this year with Ploy's Move Yourself. So I made this mix with some classics alongside some new gems, hoping to show a fluency and coherence between then and now.

The pic is of me in a bar on Khao San Road a few years ago, inspired by the many half-face shots on GU covers from around the globe.

A Fine Summer At Last is the rather optimistic-sounding title of my fourth summer mixtape for State.  It is, of course, a riff on one of the song titles on the mixtape, ‘A Fine Day At Last’ by Galway-based A Lilac Decline.  It was only after I assembled the selection that I noticed that it begins with the exact same field recording as the last one.  I had forgotten I used it before. Mea culpa.   

About half the tracks featured on it are of a recent vintage, the other half hail from other eras.  Summers of my teenage years are evoked by the inclusion of a scatter of 4AD classics.  Once more, I think that this selection might make most sense on a late night midsummer’s car journey.
