Wonderful strength that you find within you, every time. 
Bowed to this, which leaves subtract the power that lends you anced whenever you are about to fall, to suffocate ... 
Such as crying inside , despite the power conferred , never ceases to feel the background, but that laughter hides performed with skill . 
You love your strength . 
Because in your fall , before you hit the ground, it caresses you and reassures you . 
Is drying your tears and let you enjoy the fall in full , and makes you feel every blow as if you was destined for a long time . 
And once on the ground, came up to you and penetrates you , creeps up to you to pick up at all, and looks at you straight in the eyes , without words , like a lover just met . 
All of a sudden the adrenaline rises and you are back on the feet, as if nothing ever happened.
To the strength of which will never be lacking , this my humble bow.

Slowly filling the room like a billowing miasma, Experimedia is pleased to present ‘Dislocations’ – an ambitious set of new compositions from the London-based French drone auteur Pascal Savy. These are the artist’s first proper recordings to come to light since the release of ‘Adrift’ via Eilean Rec. in 2014; but while ‘Dislocations’ seems to share a similar aesthetic to that album at first glance, Savy has fallen ever further down the rabbit hole in the intervening years. 

Whereas our last offering – Matthias Urban’s ‘Passagen’ – focused on the expressive potentialities presented through rigorous discipline and process, ‘Dislocations’ explores a more reactive and emotionally charged terrain. 

Heavily influenced by the writings of Mark Fisher – specifically those found in ‘Ghosts of My Life,’ wherein Fisher lays out his notion of “the slow cancellation of the future” – the production of ‘Dislocations’ began as a pessimistic reflection on the subtle violence and disembodied forces of what Fisher terms “capitalist realism.” Over time, the project would evolve to become more intimate in scope, providing a lens through which Savy could begin to deconstruct and integrate his own feelings of personal dislocation. Ultimately, however, ‘Dislocations’ would become the means through which he would find himself reconnecting with his art, his community, and sense of hope for the future. 

What the listener receives from this process is a set of incredibly evocative recordings that occupies a rarefied space in the hinterland that falls between ambient, drone, and noise aesthetics. At times sounding like a recovered archive of lost transmissions from the front lines of late-period capitalism’s collapse, ‘Dislocations’ exists as a shifting mass of knotted low-end, grayscale reverberations, and pale shades of melody.

Echoes of a Black Hole Eating a Star [from the album 'Dislocations']

This album focuses on a derelict and abandoned holiday resort at Laem Thian bay on the east coast of the island of Koh Tao in Thailand. The resort is situated in a small cove that is only accessible on foot via an overgrown path and a walk of several miles - a journey very few tourists bother to make. It is clear at first sight that the fading white building has been vacated for some time. The concrete structure opens out onto a small sandy beach that would have provided an idyllic holiday setting at one time. A number of palm-thatched holiday cottages with dilapidated roofs slide down the hillside. There are signs of vandalism; graffiti decorates the walls, the remains of camp fires, broken glass and other detritus litter the floors - but remnants of the previous occupants also remain. Children’s toys, kitchenware, hand written notes, menus, mattresses, a plastic telephone and four cassette tapes - rusty, caked in sand, weather damaged and corroded by the humid salty sea air. 

There is a haunting quality to the location that left a deep impression on me. The sense of isolation and abandonment it engendered was in stark contrast to the rest of the island, and indeed the rest of Thailand as I experienced it. This feeling stayed with me and in some way it permeated the rest of my stay in the country. It is that feeling that I wanted to convey through this work.

Mark Vernon is a Glasgow-based artist whose work exists on the fringes of sound art, music and broadcasting. At the core of his practice lies a fascination with the intimacy of the radio voice, environmental sound, obsolete media and the re-appropriation of found recordings. He incorporates these diverse elements into radiophonic compositions for broadcast, fixed media and live performances. His solo and collaborative music projects have been published through labels including Kye, Staalplaat, Ultra Eczema, Entr’acte, 3Leaves, Staubgold and Gagarin Records, as well as a series of small CDR and LP editions on his own meagre resource imprint. Along with Barry Burns Mark produces the Radiophrenia 24 hour radio festival.

The Lost Resort - Mark Vernon - Ribbons of Rust out June 26

This is one of 3 tracks that were made solely by using the analogue synthesizer EMS Synthi 100. For each track, there was a single patch and the material was recorded live in one go. Rhythmical synchronization of the material was done by using the Synthi's sequencer. Simple live manipulations included putting a pin or two in and out and switching on and off the mixer channels. Additional panning of each individual channel was done on a computer. These tracks demonstrate the effect of extremely simplified musical material produced by using the not-so-simple sound tool (for the reference, try figuring out and programming a Synthi 100 sequencer:)). Tracks are named by the number of sequencer steps used in that piece. Recorded live at Electronic Studio - Radio Belgrade.
