Sparks ~ Interviewed on 2SER's Static

The Waldsterben effect in Germany saw the Black Forest beginning to die, as a result of acid rain from car exhausts and industrial pollution. Stricter auto emmission standards, and industrial pollution controls have since reversed the effect. My song was a contribution to the protest. Rowland didn't really like the idea of music being hijacked for political purposes. I think I agree with him, because creative writing and propaganda are two different things. But being of Germanic stock and feeling strongly about the issue, I decided to proceed, and Rowland agreed to play guitar.

Lou Reed  passing made me remember this unreleased track  I did with Roland S Howard from the Birthday Party, a seminal punk band(Nick Cave etc), Recorded in New Orleans.  On this day that Lou passes I present this unreleased song as a tribute to both and all who have passed.

Mike Watt was the founder and bassist of the seminal band The Minutemen. He was also in Firehose and is currently the bassist for Iggy Pop and the Stooges. He has played all over the world with everyone from Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl, Nels Cline of Wilco and of course Cris and Curt Kirkwood. Intro music is Teenagers by the Meat Puppets, outro music is Down With The Bass by Firehose and the episode was recorded by Craig Parker Adams at Winslow-Court Studios.
