Following the release of the leak single 'Suicide Doors', Skyzoo returns with the official first single off of Music For My Friends; "Luxury". The track, featuring Buffalo new comer Westside Gunn on the hook, is best described by Sky as "a New York trunk knocker". Sky further explains:

"The idea behind the record was to put together something that really felt like the city. Something that really felt like the NY that I know and grew up in. From the content to the beat, it feels like expensive cars driven by guys from down the block who figured out a way to get whatever they want and celebrate those realizations. That's how the city looked and felt to me growing up, and I wanted to build something like that for this generation that still tied into the album's overall theme of innocent ignorance and misguided desires".

Production wise, the song finds Skyzoo behind the boards for the first time, with coaching of course from his longtime collaborator !llmind. "I had this idea for what the song should be sonically, but I had trouble getting that from the producers I went to at the time. I decided to try to man the machine myself, but there was no way I was gonna be able to pull it off without my man !llmind and his genius talents playing Steve Kerr and coaching my efforts. I went to him with the idea, picked the drums, the loop, the change ups, etc, and he then helped orchestrate it and bring it to life". 

Additionally, the video for "Luxury" has been shot and is in the works for an early June release.

Planet Asia helped jump-start the West Coast independent hip-hop movement and has solidified himself as one of the most consistent and respected MCs in the game over his 20+ year career.   He dropped his debut EP with producer Fanatik in 1998, and followed up quickly with the singles "Definition of Ill" (Stones Throw) and "Place of Birth" (ABB Records).  In 2001, The Source Magazine gave him the ‘First Round Draft Pick’ and ‘Independent Album of the Year’ awards for How the West Was One, which was recorded with fellow CA rapper Rasco under the group name Cali Agents.  This landed him a deal with Interscope Records, where he was signed until 2003 without releasing an album.  

Planet Asia was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2002 for his feature on the song "W" by Mystic and was later signed to Avatar Records, which released his official debut album, The Grand Opening, in 2004.  It earned him another ‘Independent Album of the Year’ award from The Source.  Later, he started his own imprint Gold Chain Music, on which he has churned out multiple projects.  He has also collaborated on albums with the likes of DJ Muggs (Pain Language), Evidence (The Medicine)and Madlib (Cracks In The Vinyl) among others and released songs with artists such as Linkin Park, Bun B, Talib Kweli and Ghostface Killah.

The Fresno MC is fresh off of a strong 2017 which featured well-received collaborative albums with producers DirtyDiggs (Dirty Planet) and Apollo Brown (Anchovies). For 2018, Asia teamed up with Bay Area producer izznyce for a true solo project, The Golden Buddha, sure to be considered the next classic in his vast catalog.

The Golden Buddha was produced entirely by izznyce (producer for Superstar Quamallah and more) and features AZ, Hus Kingpin, Turbin, Marvelous Mag, Killa Kali, TriState, Xiomara and The Architect.

Today, Asia releases the first visual from the project, “Fireworks,” which was premiered by Hiphopdx.

Speaking on the project, Planet Asia says: “This album represents the foundation of what Planet Asia is about and that is ‘balance’. Me and izznyce also took our time with the record, and had a chance to really vibe out and make the type of music we personally like that will stand the test of time!”

Producer/emcee, Steve Spiffler, has been on a roll the past couple of years. From releasing some of the sauciest ‘Soul Flips’ and dropping some gnarly 16s, the 26 year old Stockton, CA native never fails month after month to lace the game with something fresh and innovative. This month, he teams up with underground legends Planet Asia and Tristate for “Trophy Case,” a super soulful and buttery joint, which boasts both Spiffler’s production and rhyme skills. TriState sets off the three man relay with a 16 that stays glued to the beat like a slalom course. After the sample rocks for a few bars, Spliff steps to the mic dropping bars from his third-eye with raps like, "Flourite on the gold chain and let it cool my chest/ Bitch I’m Chakra Khan, they see my aura beaming through my chest.”  To complete the trifecta, PA Medallions delivers a rewind worthy verse, abound with similes, metaphors that can “communicate with dolphins and whales.”
